LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's soccer team took down Lynchburg 4-1 Saturday afternoon.

The Basics

Score: Bridgewater 4, Lynchburg 1

Records: Bridgewater (13-4, 6-3 ODAC), Lynchburg (9-5-2, 4-4-1 ODAC)

How It Happened

  • Laura Narby put the Eagles on the board early off an assist from Kendall Garza. In the third minute, Garza dribbled down the right side of the field and found a wide open Narby in the middle of the field. Narby found the back of the net for her 13th goal of the season.

  • Lynchburg responded at the 7:44 mark from Madelyn Boyce. A scramble in the box stretched keeper Erinn Lockard and the BC backline thin, leading to the Hornets' lone goal of the afternoon.

  • The Eagles kept applying pressure to the Hornets defense, as Sienna Smith, Lyric Birkley, and Garza ripped shots towards the goal.

  • In the 20th minute, Brianna Curro found Garza in a similar fashion to the first goal, leading to Garza finding nylon to give Bridgewater the advantage.

  • The remainder of the half saw no additions to the score from either side, but Erinn Lockard faced four shot attempts in the waning minutes of the half. Three were saved, and one was off the mark.

  • Bridgewater resumed their offensive surge in the opening ten minutes of the second half. A save from Lockard set up Lyric Birkley beating multiple Lynchburg defenders, leading to her first goal of the contest.

  • The Eagles kept their foot on the gas by getting their fourth and final goal in the 55th minute. Garza and Birkley were in a 2-on-1 situation with the Lynchburg keeper. Garza decided to keep the ball and shoot, leading to her second goal of the match.

  • In the remaining minutes, Lynchburg brought a few shot attempts, one coming from a scramble in the box that stretched the BC defense thin. Despite this, the Eagles were able to keep the Hornets scoreless in the second half.
