BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's soccer team fell to Virginia Wesleyan 3-2 Wednesday afternoon. This was the first loss in ODAC play on the season for the Eagles.

How it Happened
- Bridgewater and Virginia Wesleyan traded possession in the opening minutes of the match. Riely Queen took the first shot opportunity for the Eagles at the 6:57 mark, but it was off the mark.
- In the 15th minute, Trey Widrick kicked a pass out to Anthony Eugenio. Eugenio took a shot from range and found the back of the net.
- After going down 1-0, Virginia Wesleyan took the action to the Bridgewater defensive end. VWU's Zach Bittler put a shot on goal, but it was stopped by Zane Kowalski.
- At the 28:00 mark, Bittler redirected a pass from deep with a header and found the back of the net to even the score.
- Play in the second half was defined by physicality from both sides. Despite this, Virginia Wesleyan took control of the match to start the half. In the 52nd minute, Nolan Schulte scored off a set piece to put the Marlins in the lead.
- After 25 minutes of physical play, Virginia Wesleyan's Tyler Waddell scored an insurance goal in the 80th minute.
- At the 80:29 mark, Cole Dunbar lobbed a pass to Trey Widrick. Widrick found nylon from range to give the Eagles their second goal of the match.
- In the waning minutes, Eugenio ripped a couple more shot attempts. One was blocked and one went high.
Match Notes
- This was the first loss in ODAC play this season for BC.
- This is the first time where the Eagles scored first and lost the match.
- The entire match brought physical play, as 32 total fouls were handed out. The Marlins caused 18, and the Eagles caused 14.
- Trey Widrick scored his tenth goal and fifth assist of the season. This was also Widrick's 50th career match.
