FARMVILLE, Va – The Bridgewater College men's soccer team dropped the No. 22 ranked Hampden-Sydney men's soccer team 1-0 Saturday night.

How It Happened
- The match, as displayed on the stat sheet, was a defensive battle that saw very few shots. Trey Widrick had the first shot attempt in the second minute. It was saved by the Hampden-Sydney keeper. The Tigers did not see their first shot attempt of the match until the 42nd minute when Kaden Sawyer missed wide.
- In the 39th minute, Trey Widrick scored the lone goal of the match. He caught the HSC keeper far out and beat him, leading to an easy shot to the back of the net.
- Other than these two notable moments, the first half took place mainly in the midfield, as both teams constantly swapped possessions.
- The second half brought more action on the offensive end, as Hampden-Sydney put up nine shots, and Bridgewater mustered six. Hampden-Sydney controlled the possession for most of the second half.
- In the 71st minute, Widrick had an open opportunity to give the Eagles an insurance goal. He was one-on-one with the Hampden-Sydney keeper. His initial shot was stopped, but the keeper could not gain control. Widrick sent a shot over a defender, but it went high over the goal.
- Riley Queen had a couple opportunities to score in the second half. The first came at the 76:15 mark, when he took a shot at the goal, but was stopped by the keeper. The second came in the final minute of the contest. The second shot was also stopped by the HSC keeper.
- Cole Dunbar also had a chance to extend the lead for the Eagles in the 84th minute. He took a shot, but was blocked by the top woodwork.
- In the waning minutes, Zane Kowalski faced a barrage of shot attempts from Hampden-Sydney. In the final ten minutes, the freshman keeper faced five shots, four of them being put on target within a span of two minutes. Kowalski managed to keep all four shot attempts from reaching the back of the net.
Match Notes
- This was the first win for the program against Hampden-Sydney since 2016. This was also the first win against a ranked opponent of the season. This was also Hampden-Sydney's first loss in ODAC play this season.
- With Hampden-Sydney's and Washington & Lee's losses on Saturday, there are no longer any undefeated teams in ODAC play. Bridgewater currently sits second in the ODAC rankings, behind Lynchburg.
- The Eagles secured home field advantage in the ODAC playoffs through at least the first round.
- BC lost the shot battle 8-10. However, Bridgewater put six shots on goal while HSC only managed five. The Eagles are now 4-2 in matches where their opponent records more shot attempts.
- Zane Kowalski recorded five saves in the contest.
- This is the first shutout victory vs HSC since 2005.
- The Eagles are 4-0 this season in night matches. The Eagles are also 11-0 in matches where they score first.
- The Eagles currently have 11 wins on the season, tying the second highest mark in program history.
- The Eagles have six conference wins on the season, a feat that has only been done three times before in program history (2003, 2012, 2018)

The Eagles host the third seed in the ODAC, Washington & Lee, on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 4 p.m. This is the final match of the regular season for BC. The match will be streamed live on FloCollege.
