BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's soccer team capped off the homecoming weekend slate of events with a 5-0 victory over Guilford.

How it Happened

The Eagles were on the offensive in the early stages of the match. In the third minute, the Eagles had a set piece opportunity off a Lyric Birkley thow-in. Birkley sent the ball near the goal, and it was redirected by the head of a Guilford player. Katherine King sent a quick pass to Kendall Garza in the box, who redirected the pass into the back of the net with her right foot.

With the early advantage, the Eagles continued to apply pressure to the Guilford defense. Villafan ripped a shot, but it was out right. Birkley had a couple of attempts of her own. One was met by the Guilford keeper, and the other went left.

Neither team produced a goal for the remainder of the half, but BC continued to rip away shot attempts. Guilford's first shot attempt of the match came in the 19th minute, but it was off the mark. Lucy Larson, Aliana Ferreira, and Hannah England came off the bench and let off shots almost immediately after being subbed in.

In the 79th minute, Ferreira lasered a shot towards the goal, but it was saved. The keeper could not get control of the ball, leading to Lucy Larson tapping the ball into the goal for the fifth goal of the match.

After recording her 23rd and 24th career assists, Lyric Birkley is now tied with Hanna Randolph for the second highest mark in program history. She needs three more assists surpass Keri Rager (26) for the most in program history. The assist also increased her career points mark to 97, putting her 16 points away from the top mark in program history.
