Score: Bridgewater (BCE) 73, Roanoke (ROA) 46
Records: BCE (14-1 Overall, 6-0 ODAC), ROA (6-9 Overall, 2-4 ODAC)
How It Happened
-
The Eagles continued to apply their rugged defense throughout the game limiting shots from the perimeter and in the paint, while also staying aggressive holding off any fast-made buckets in transition. The Roanoke Maroons were held to just two made field goals and two free throws to close out the first quarter with a commanding 17-6 start from Stephanie Flamini's squad.
-
BCE remained diligent on the defensive end racking up seven turnovers in the second quarter and capitalizing on errant passes. Multiple scoring runs including a 9-0 run sparked the offense to continue finding open lanes to the basket. Alexis Edmonds splashed an open jumper from an across the key, set up-pass by Abbie Baker giving the Eagles a 34-18 score at the half.
-
Then, Alsberry and the Eagles exploded opening the floodgates from all parts of the floor offensively. A bold 9-0 scoring run helped BCE jump to a 30-point lead off quick set pieces. With the constant drives into the paint, Alsberry found open spots driving and shooting over the top of Roanoke defenders. The paint was open for Alsberry and that was what the 6-3 forward needed to get to the charity stripe to cash in the 1,000-point accolade. The Eagles went on to outscore the Maroons in the final quarter, knocking down 24 shots. There was no stopping BCE at that point, as Bridgewater came away with a 73-46 win.
