ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Bridgewater College field hockey team took down Cedar Crest 7-1 on Saturday.
The Basics
Final Score: Bridgewater 7, Cedar Crest 1
Records: Bridgewater 4-1, Cedar Crest 2-4
How It Happened
- Bridgewater hopped on the board right away as BC had a penalty corner 1:50 into the game. Lexi Francis took the attempt and found Carynn Klingler who buried her shot into the back of the net to make to 1-0 BC before the game was two minutes old. The Eagles saw another opportunity just over a minute later as Daphne Daymude had her shot saved and Bekah Mercer cleaned up the loose change in front and buried her shot to make it 2-0.
- The Eagles continued to get chances in the opening quarter and Daymude was able to one-up her saved shot earlier in the frame as Autumn Just found her off of a penalty corner and the senior found the back of the net just over midway through the opening frame to make it 3-0. The Eagles got on the board one final time in the frame on another trash-can goal as Just had her shot stuffed by Shelby Heater, but Olivia Ohleger scooped it up and finished at the crease to make it 4-0.
- BC had plenty of chances in the second frame, but it was the home side who saw the first opportunity as Cedar Crest came up empty on a penalty corner. After multiple saves by Heater the Eagles finally broke through as Kylie Amberger had a shot turned aside and Casey Grell found the rebound and scored to make it 5-0. BC had one last chance at the end of the half but Olivia DeWan had her shot fanned by Heater.
- Neither side created much in the third quarter, but BC capitalized in the start of the fourth as Emily Tyler added to the scoring as Maylynn Watson fed her for the sixth goal of the day. Cedar Crest got on the board with eight minutes to play, but BC maintained the six-goal margin in the closing minutes as DeWan found the back of the net thanks to an assist by Mackenzie Buckley to make it 7-1.
