Seniors Guide Women's Lax Past Guilford

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team celebrated the 2024 senior class on Senior Day before defeating Guilford, 15-2, at Bridgewater Stadium on Saturday thanks to 14 goals from seniors and graduate students.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Prior to the game, the team honored Aunnie Hacker, Brooke Hanson, Delaney Kerns, Tavin Krick, Julia Mohler, Kaity Petersheim, Lauren Roberts, Hannah Sherin and Ashley Venit before the contest started.
  • Once the game got started, Venit got the Eagles on the board just 20 seconds into the contest after Robers fed her a pass inside, 1-0. Kerns and Hacker connected to double the lead to 2-0 before Annika Benson scored with help from Petersheim and then Petersheim scored one of her own as the Eagles went ahead 4-0 with 9:01 still to go in the first and forced a timeout from Guilford. The Quakers got on the board off the stick of Kylie Horn, but Benson came back with a woman-down goal to push the lead to 5-1. Venit went on to score two more times in the quarters final minute to end the quarter with BC in front, 7-1.
  • Hacker opened the scoring in the second with a goal from Hacker, assisted by Grace Pietro, before Roberts scored on her own and put BC up 9-1. Petersheim scored another and Benson finished her hat trick to begin a running clock at 11-1 with 11 minutes left in the half, which held until the break.
  • Roberts and Petersheim went back-to-back to open the third quarter and Jenna Entsminger added a goal of her own to set the score at 14-1. The Quakers finally ended their scoring drought with Wood's second of the game right before the buzzer to end the third with Bridgewater up 14-2.
  • A low scoring final period of regulation saw Roberts score the lone goal of the 15-minute frame as she scored with three minutes left in the game to get to the final score of 15-2.
GAME STATS
  • Petersheim, Roberts and Venit all recorded hat tricks on their Senior Day, while Benson also recorded a hat trick as she played her penultimate regular season game at Bridgewater Stadium.
  • Hacker also added two goals and as assist on her Senior Day and Entsminger rounded out the scorers.
  • Petersheim and Roberts both had two assists, while Hacker, Pietro and Kerns all had one. 
  • Petersheim and Pietro each snagged four draw controls while Roberts and Paige Mayers had two apiece. Madelaine Godat had one in the win.
  • Mayers and Miranda Coleman both had four ground balls to lead the Eagles, while Petersheim and Roberts had three GBs each. Pietro, Hacker, Venit, Caris Cianelli, Kena Gresham and Abigayle Zaudtke all had two apiece.
  • Mayers led the team with three caused turnovers. Petersheim pitched in two CTs of her own.
  • Rachael Robinson played the first half and made three saves, while Maisen Jenkins stopped two shots out of the three she faced in the second half.
  • Bridgewater out shot the Quakers 39-10 and had a 34-18 edge in ground balls. The Eagles held Guilford to just 12 clears in 32 chances and were nearly perfect with 17 successful clears in 18 tries.
