FREDERICKSURG, Va. -- The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team fell to Mary Washington in non-conference action at the Battleground Turf on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- BC came out of the opening draw with a quick goal from Lauren Roberts barely over a minute into play to give Bridgewater a 1-0 lead. UMW responded with a pair of goals within 30 seconds to assume a 2-1 lead with 11:08 left in the first quarter, but Paige Mayers scored just 10 seconds later to tie things up at 2-2. Mary Washington tallied three more goals in the quarter's last five minutes to take a 5-2 lead into the second period.
- Kaity Petersheim struck in the opening minutes of the second to get the Eagles back on the board followed by a goal from Roberts to make it a one goal game at 5-4. Petersheim got her second goal in less than three minutes to tie the contest and Mayers beat the UMW goalie for a woman-up goal to get the Eagles back in front, 6-5, with 7:12 left in the half. The response from the home team was four-straight goals as UMW held a 9-6 lead at the recess.
- The scoring run continued as the third quarter began with another goal from Mary Washington to increase the lead to 10-6, but Petersheim found Roberts on a cut to get BC back in the game at 10-7 with 13:25 left in the third. Three-straight scores from the home side put the Eagles down 13-7, but the Crimson & Gold fought back with a pair of goals by Mayers and Roberts to get BC within four at 13-9 as the game went to the final period.
- Mary Washington controlled the scoring in the final 15 minutes with five-consecutive goals to jump ahead 18-9. Annika Benson got a pass from Ashley Venit to get the Eagles back on the board and Petersheim connected with Roberts again to make it 18-11. A goal in the last 30 seconds of regulation from UMW brought the scoreline to the final of 19-11.
GAME STATS
- Roberts led the game with five goals, while Mayers finished with three and Petersheim had two. Benson added the final tally in the loss.
- Petersheim also had two assists to finish with a four-point night.
- Venit pitched in the only other assist of the night for BC.
- Petersheim led the game with four draw controls while Mayers grabbed four and Roberts, Grace Pietro and Caris Cianelli all had two apiece.
- Pietro paced the Eagles with four ground balls, while Tavin Krck scooped up three and Petersheim, Mayers and Rachael Robinson all had two GBs.
- Petersheim also led the way with a pair of caused turnovers. Pietro, Krck, Lindsay Davis and Olivia Lawrence all had one CT.
- Robinson started the game in the cage and made three saves before Maisen Jenkins played the second half and stopped nine shots.
- Mary Washington out shot Bridgewater 40-29 and held a 24-16 edge in ground balls. Although, Bridgewater controls the draws finishing with a 19-15 edge.Â

Bridgewater gets right back on the field tomorrow, April 13, at 4:30 pm for Senior Day. The Eagles will honor nine seniors prior to the start of their ODAC contest with Guilford.
