HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One:
  • Randolph hopped on the board right away with two gone in the top of the first as an inside the park home run put the WildCats ahead 1-0. BC looked to respond as a single by Jordan Wise with one out gave the offense life. Smith followed her as she earned the career milestone a single to left center to put a pair of runners aboard. Kaelyn Ramsey stepped in later in the inning and she delivered with a double to right center driving in both Eagles on the base paths and giving BC the lead at 2-1.
  • Each team had chances to add to the score tally in the second and third innings, but it remained a 2-1 BC edge. Randolph kept knocking on the door and broke through in the top of the fourth as a fielder's choice allowed for the WildCats to tie the game. BC had a chance to wrestle the lead back, but a good defensive play by the WildCats kept the game tied. Randolph seized the new-found momentum and put two runners on thanks to a walk and a fielding error. Lacey Lucado dur in next and singled up the middle to clear the bases and make it 4-2. The WildCats weren't done there as another BC error allowed for them to tag on a run and extend the frame. Randolph tagged on two more runs before the inning ended to make it 7-2 heading to the middle of the fifth.
  • Bridgewater needed to respond and a miscue by the WildCats put Hannah Mahan on first to open the inning. Mahan worked her way to third after a stolen base and a flyout and eventually scored on a wild pitch to cut into the lead. Delaney Lail singled later in the frame and a double by Ramsey drove her in to make it 7-4 after five.
  • The WildCats opened the inning with a double and another BC error allowed for the visitors to drive the run home and pad onto their lead at 8-4. Randolph proceeded to load the bases in the frame, but Savannah martin entered the game and got a flyout to centerfield and a pop up to Smith at first to end the frame.
  • Randolph had a chance to extend the lead in the seventh, but left the bases loaded again. Wise got aboard in the home half of the seventh with a single and a Lail double allowed for her pinch runner Molly Ecroyd to trot in and cut into the lead before the WildCats retired the side and took game one.
GAME STATS:
  • Wise, Smith, Lail and Ramsey all tallied 2-for-4 efforts at the dish, but Ramsey's pair of doubles and three RBI stole the show for BC offensively.
  • Emily Morris (4-5) went the advertised distance for the WildCats surrendering three earned runs on nine hits and a pair of walks. Three different WildCats registered two hits in game one.
  • McKenzie Cauthorn (4-5) took the loss in the circle for BC after tossing the opening 4.0+ innings. Erica Nelson and Painter each came in and did not allow an earned run in their efforts.
GAME TWO
  • Elena Williams started game two where she left off in yesterday's win over No. 25 Lynchburg as she retired the WildCats in order. Peyton Gregory worked a walk for BC in the home half of the first and worked her way to third thanks to a stolen base and a wild pitch. Lail delivered with a single the opposite way to drive her in and give BC a 1-0 lead. Ramsey extend the frame with a single and both she and Lail advanced to third before a groundout ended the inning.
  • Williams continued to do her job as she sat down Randolph in order in the top of the second and Andrea Savage looked to give her fellow sophomore more run support with a leadoff single in the bottom half of the inning, but she was left stranded. Randolph broke up the perfect start from Williams with a pair of base rips to put runners on the corners with just one out in the top of the third. A Jenna McDermott single drove in the lead runner and evened the game. RWC loaded the bases and took the lead with a two-run single at 3-1. BC made the move to Samantha Martin out of the bullpen and a groundout got BC out of the inning, but trailing 3-1.
  • Both teams put a runner on in the bottom of the third and the top of the fourth, but neither crossed the plate. A Ramsey single to open the home half of the fourth gave the offense life as she advanced to second on a wild pitch and a Lexi Schaaf single drove her in to cut the lead in half. Savage stepped in next and singled as well to drive in Schaaf and even the game at 3-3.
  • Lynchburg struck back in the home half of the frame with a pair of singles to open the inning. BC got an out via a fielder's choice, but that moved the lead runner to third and out runners on the corners. Williams induced a groundout next, but it allowed for Lynchburg to cut into the lead as the runner scored from third. The Hornets followed that with a single to drive in another run and cut the lead to just one. The Eagles got out of the jam in the next at bat as Abby Byrum made a clutch grab on her back foot to end the frame with BC in front. A Reagan Cullen walk put runners on the corners and Wise gave BC the lead back as a single from the BC right fielder made it 4-3. BC wasted no time in blowing the game open as the bottom of the fifth rolled around. The Eagles tagged on for runs capped off by another Wise base rip that drove in Cullen to make it 8-3 after five.
  • Both sides did not capitalize in the sixth sending Randolph to their final three outs staring at a five-run hole. With their backs to the wall the WildCats regrouped and opened the frame with a double, but a strikeout and a fly out put them down to their final out. Randolph did not go down quietly as three-straight singles drove in a trio of runs for the visitors and cut the lead to 8-6 with the go-ahead run at the plate. Morris stepped in for Randolph in a pinch-hit bid but flew out to Wise in right field to end the game.
GAME STATS:
  • Wise, Lail and Schaaf all drove in a pair of runs in the game-two victory. Ramsey went 3-for-4 at the dish and scored a run to add to her phenomenal day at the plate. All nine of the Eagles' starters recorded hits in game two.
  • Randolph had three different hitters with two hits in game two and all but one of its starters recorded a hit. Austyn Moran (2-4) took the loss for the WildCats In the circle after she surrendered all eight runs for Randolph.
  • Martin (3-2) picked up the victory after the crazy seventh inning and going 4.1 innings in relief for Williams.
