BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College baseball team defeated Mary Baldwin 14-5 in its second meeting of the season Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jonathan Sexton kickstarted the offense for the Eagles in the bottom of the first hitting a single to center field to bring the first run across the board. Christian Harris produced another run squaring up a ball to right field to bring Jeffrey Snider home. With two outs in the inning, Spencer Sigmon rushed the short stop into a fielding error to put BC up 3-0.
- The Fighting Squirrels' offense responded in the top of the second when JT Stevenson found open grass in center field to cut the deficit to two, 3-1. Jaden Isidro got out of the inning striking out the final two batters.
- Bridgewater added another run in the bottom of the second inning when Nick Stavros hit a hard ground ball to second base to allow Nick Dawson to touch home plate.
- MBU mounted a comeback in the top of the third inning when Josh Lallo hit a high fly ball over the right field wall to score two runs and put Mary Baldwin within one, 4-3.
- The Eagles went on an offensive tear in the bottom of fourth tacking on five more runs. Snider dropped in a double down the left field brought in another run. Christian Harris singled down the third base line to push the lead to 6-3. Isaac Sumpter and Dawson both hit balls to the left side of the field to increase the lead. The final run came when Lucas Bauer got hit by a pitch to make it a 9-3 game.
- Snider continued his dominance at the plate singling to right field, then eventually came around to score off a double form Sexton. Sigmon extended the lead even greater when he hit a fly ball to allow Christian Harris to tag up from third and make the score 11-3.
- The Fighting Squirrels tacked on another run in their half of the seventh inning when Noah Kessler popped a ball through the right side to bring the runner home from third base. BC used effective defense to get out of the inning turning a successful 6-4-3 double play to close out the inning.
- Bridgewater continued to produce offense in the bottom of the eighth with Christian Harris issuing a sacrifice fly to right field allowing the runner to tag up from third. Tristan Gordon stepped to the plate and slapped a single through the 5-6 hole to put another run on the board. The Eagles scored their last run off a Sigmon drive to right center field to make it 14-4.
- MBU picked up a run in the top of the ninth after a costly error from the BC defense, but it was not enough as Bridgewater cruised to a 14-5 victory.
GAME STATS
- Six Eagles had multi-hit games with Snider leading with a 3-for-4 hit day, while also drawing two walk and scoring four runs.
- Christian Harris picked up three RBIs in his 2-for-3 performance at the plate.
- The BC defense recorded two double plays in the game.
- Isidro was given the no decision after going 3.0 inning giving up six hits and recorded three strike outs. Hunter Covill was awarded the win after a 3.0 inning performance allowing three hits and striking out one.
- Mary Baldwin used eight pitchers in today's contest with Roman Borders receiving the loss after giving up three runs (one earned) in the bottom of the first.
