BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team fell to No. 8 Washington and Lee, 19-7, on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Generals raced out to an early 7-0 advantage as the visitors scored the first seven goals of the game in less than nine minutes. The Eagles got one back out of the stick of Kaity Petersheim who dodged through the WLU defenders and found the back of the cage with 4:37 on the clock in the first. Hanna Bishop and Alex Petras each added another score for the Generals before Petersheim struck again as BC trailed 9-2 at the end of the first period.Â
- Consecutive goals from the visitors increased the Eagles' deficit to 11-2 with 14 minutes to go in the first half, but the Crimson & Gold battled back as Paige Mayers scored to make it 11-3 and Ashley Venit scored off a pass from Petersheim to cut the lead down to seven. Washington and Lee scored two more before the end of the half to take a nine-goal lead into the break.
- The Generals extended their lead to 17-4 through the first half of the third quarter until Venit scored again with a helper from Mayers to make it a 17-5 game. A goal from WLU started the fourth quarter and Venit completed her hat trick after receiving a pass from Pietro with 10 minutes to go. Petersheim added one more in the final minutes as the Generals walked away with a 19-7 victory.
GAME STATS
- Venit and Petersheim each finished with a hat trick, while Petersheim added an assist to lead the team with four points.Â
- Mayers scored the remaining goal and pitched in an assist as did Pietro.
- Pietro led the way with four draw controls with Mayers snatching three draws and Petersheim finding two of her own.
- Mayers also led the way with three ground balls tied with Maisen Jenkins. Tavin Krick grabbed two, while Lindsay Davis and Caris Cianelli had one each.
- Davis, Pietro and Julia Frick all caused one turnover.
- Rachael Robinson started in goal and played the first quarter making two saves, while Jenkins played the remaining 45 minutes and stopped eight shots.
