ATLANTA, Ga. – The Bridgewater College softball team split a pair of games with Emory thanks to a massive sixth inning in game two.

Game one – Emory 4, Bridgewater 1
Game two – Bridgewater 5, Emory 3
Records: Bridgewater 3-7; Emory 5-3
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One:
- Emory got the scoring started in the bottom of the first as a lead off walk followed by a single put runners at the corners with no outs. EU took advantage with an old school double steal. Bridgewater made the throw to second and got eh trailing runner, but the lead runner crossed the plate to put the home side in front.
- Andrea Savage got the BC offense going in the second inning as she doubled to left field but was left stranded. Emory went down in order and Sarah Kate Tozier got aboard via the walk to start the third. BC used some small to get Tozier to second, but she was caught stealing to end the inning.
- EU got the lead runner on in the home half of the third and she immediately swiped second. Emory laid down a bunt to try and move the runner, but the throw to first was off target allowing for both runners to eventually come around and score and make it 3-0 for the home side as the rains came.
- Out of the delay, BC went to work. Jordan Wise doubled and made her way tot third after an error in the first at bat since action resumed. The next two BC hitters were sat down via the punchout, but a walk by Savage kept the inning alive. Cheyenne Barlow pinch ran for Savage and stole second to put two runners in scoring position, before another BC Eagle was at down on strikes.
- The home side added a run in the bottom of the fourth thanks to back-to-back base knocks to stretch the lead to 4-0. Tozier got on the bases for BC in the top of the fifth and swiped second to get in scoring position with two gone. McKenna Mueller delivered as she singled to bring in her fellow sophomore and get Bridgewater on the score board. Emory had the only other base runner from that point on enroute to the victory.
GAME STATS:
- Bridgewater was limited to just three hits in the contest split over two days.
- Sam Martin got credit for the loss after her start on Wednesday. Erica Nelson came in and closed out the game for BC over the final three frames.
- Emory utilized the strikeout effectively in the circle with 10 to its credit in game one.
GAME TWO
- Tozier stayed hot as she drew a walk to open game two of the day. The sophomore made it around to third before she was left stranded. After a scoreless frame by EU, Bridgewater went to work offensively. Lexi Schaaf doubled with two gone and Jazmyne Smith reached on an error to put a pair of runners on at the corners for the visitors. BC took advantage of a passed ball allowing Schaaf to score and put BC ahead 1-0 in the second. Emory replied as a pair of hits and a Bridgewater error allowed for EU to knot the game. BC got out of the jam with a double play to send the game to the third tied at 1-1.
- Emory stepped in front in the bottom of the third with a pair of RBI base knocks. The home side was still threatening late in the frame with two runners on as BC made a change in the circle, Mackenzie Cauthorn stepped in the circle and induced a ground ball to head to the fourth trailing 3-1.
- BC struck back in the fourth as Cauthorn drew a walk to open the frame. She moved into scoring position and eventually scored as Schaaf singled through the left side to make it a one run game.
- Schaaf struck again in the sixth as she singled to left field and brought around Caroline Malandra to tie the game. Smith stepped in next and did just as you would ask from the senior as she ripped a double to the gap in right field to give Bridgewater the lead. Kaelyn Ramsey followed and she turned on a ball to the left field gap driving in Smith and pushing it to a 5-3 BC advantage.
- Emory looked to respond and put two runners on, but a pop out and a ground out to the right side helped maintain the lead. BC had multiple runners in scoring position in the seventh, but could not capitalize. Emory got a runner to second in the home half of the frame, but a ground out to Mueller at shortstop sealed the deal for Bridgewater.
GAME STATS:
- Schaaf had a coming out party in the second game of the day with a trio of hits and a pair of RBI. The Eagles also benefited from four doubles on the day.
- Catuthorn (2-2) got the win in the circle for the Eagles after 4.1 innings in relief. The sophomore did not surrender a run and added a strikeout.
- Emory benefited from a pair of multi-hit efforts despite the loss.
