HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One:
  • The Eagles went down in order each of their first two trips to dish leaving the door open for Berry. The Vikings took advantage with a massive bottom of the second that saw the home side put up four runs on three hits and a single Bridgewater Error to take a 4-0 lead after two innings of play.
  • BC went down in order in the third and Sam Martin repaid the favor as she retired the Vikings in order in her first full inning of relief.
  • The Eagles finally got some runners on the base paths as a walk by Caroline Malandra to open the fourth gave Bridgewater life. After a sacrifice bunt and a strikeout, Delaney Lail also worked a walk to give the visitors two runners on with two down. Berry worked out of the jam with another strikeout to maintain the lead.
  • Berry responded with a run in the home half of the fourth, and had a chance to extend the lead further, but a nice throw by Hannah Mahan in left field kept it just a 5-0 Vikings edge heading to the fifth. The Eagles finally broke up the no-hitter bid in the top of the fifth as a two-out base knock by Andrea Savage gave the Bridgewater offense life before she was stranded.
  • The home side tagged on a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a two-run home run to make it 7-0 heading to the seventh. Jazmyne Smith singled and tried to help fuel the Eagles comeback, but Fouts held on to her shutout.

GAME STATS:
  • Savage and Smith tallied the only two hits for the Eagles in game one and accounted for two of BC's four base runners in the contest.
  • Mackenzie Cauthorn got the start and went 1.2 innings. The sophomore allowed a pair of earned runs and was on the hook for the loss. Martin went 4.1 innings in relief and allowed a trio of earned runs to go along with five hits.
  • Fouts tossed a complete-game shutout for the Vikings highlighted by 11 strikeouts.
GAME TWO
  • The Eagles hopped on the board right away in game two. McKenna Mueller worked a walk and advanced into scoring position on a fielder's choice. Jazmyne Smith dug in next and delivered with a single to bring in the shortstop and give the Eagles an early 1-0 advantage.
  • Bridgewater had a chance to add an insurance run in the second as Molly Ecroyd worked a walk and Aniella Baldwin singled, but Ecroyd was gunned down trying to advance to third to end the frame. Mueller reached on an error in the third but was left stranded this time after a fielder's choice pushed her all the way to third.
  • Berry wrestled the lead back in the bottom of the third after some small ball allowed for the Vikings to push a pair of runs across and pull ahead 2-1.
  • Bridgewater responded immediately as base rips by Jordan Wise and Lexi Schaaf put runners on. Morgan Lucas was tagged by a pitch to load the bases. Baldwin stepped in the box and hit a ground ball up the middle. Schaaf came around to score as the Vikings went for the play at second, allowing for the Eagles to tie the game. The home side dug in and ended the frame with the game tied, escaping with runners on the corners.
  • Berry took the lead back in the bottom half of the fourth on an awkward play and combined that with a four-run fifth to go ahead 7-2. The Vikings pitching did the rest, not allowing a hit over the final two innings.

GAME STATS:
  • Four different Eagles tallied hits in the second game of the day compare to 10 combined hits for the home side.
  • Lail got the start for the Eagles in the circle and was on the hook for the loss after going 4.2 innings and surrendering six earned runs. Erica Nelson came in and tossed 1.1 scoreless innings for the Eagles in relief.
  • Hannah Gore hurled 3.0 scoreless innings in relief for Berry enroute to the save.
