HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Captains started the scoring in the bottom of the first with bases loaded then Doc Daniels reached first base safely off an Eagles' fielding error in centerfield putting two runs on the scoreboard. Joe Christopher got out of the inning successfully striking out the next batter.
- BC rebounded quickly in the top of the second capitalizing on CNU errors. TJ Johnson started things off by issuing a single through the right side to bring Luke Tomajczyk to the plate who reached first safely off a fielding error from Christopher Newport. Nick Stavros delivered the first run plating TJ Johnson after grounding out to second base. Kyle Carlson was able to use his quickness to rush the second baseman into a throwing error allowing Tomajczyk to come home. With two outs, Christian Harris dropped in a single through the right side moving up Carlson from first. Pressure increased when Jeffrey Snider reached first on another error in the field allowing Harris and Carlson to touch home plate. Bridgewater loaded the bases when Brandan Hartman used patience to draw a walk. The Captains decided to go to their bullpen, but the Eagles successfully batted around with TJ Johnson drawing another walk to increase the lead to 5-2.
- CNU battled back in the bottom of the second with the first two batters getting on base with singles. Josh Reinhold kept the offense going hitting a single up the middle to bring the runner from second home. Zach Dzarnowski grounded out to third that was good enough to score the runner to put Christopher Newport within one, 5-4.
- The Eagles got momentum back on their side in the top of the fourth after Snider walked and then stole second base. With a runner in scoring position, Lucas Bauer drove in a run singling then advancing to second on the throw. The scoring ensued on the next at-bat when Hartman hit a ball to right center giving BC the 7-4 advantage.
- Andrew Baugher came in for Bridgewater in the bottom of the fourth and pitched his way to 3.0 inning not allowing a run to score.
- Entering the bottom of the ninth Brett Midkiff came in with a save opportunity on the line. Midkiff successfully closed the door getting the runner out at second leading to an Eagles' win 7-4.
