BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's basketball team grinded out a 54-48 victory over Shenandoah on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Abby Freeman got the Eagles on the board on BC's first trip down the floor. SU made a pair of free throws and added a three-pointer to take a 5-2 lead. Jaden Alsberry knocked down a jumper to get BC back to within a point, but an SU answer on the other end pushed the lead back to 7-4. Riley Corcoran knocked a pair of free throws and India Dailey finished at the cup to put the Eagles back in front. The Hornets took the lead back momentarily before Jay Garcia knocked down a jumper on a dish from Dailey. SU got the lead back and rode it to the end of the opening frame, 11-10.
- A second-chance effort from Freeman put BC in front. Kayla Ford sank a free throw to push the lead to 13-11and Shenandoah quickly worked to tie things back up and take the lead on a Terese Greene old-school three-point play at 14-13. Freeman connected with Alsberry for a bucket and sparked a 7-0 BC run to make it 20-14 with 3:47 to go in the half. Greene drained a three-pointer to cut the advantage in half, but Alsberry found Ford for a long ball to stretch the lead back out. The teams traded three-pointers again and Freeman followed with a jumper to make it an eight-point game. Greene made a pair ta the line within the closing seconds to make it 28-22 at the break.
- The Hornets got on the board first in the third quarter and opened the frame on a 6-1 run to get back to within a point. Ford made a free throw and SU replied with a make to even the game at 30-30. Corcoran made two shots at the stripe to start a 9-0 BC run where she made six free throws and Rosemary Pierson knocked down a three-pointer to make it 39-30. Maddie Kimble knocked down a pair from the charity stripe to end the scoring run, but Corcoran sank a layup at the horn to make it 41-32 for BC heading to the final period.
- Shenandoah scored three-straight points to open the fourth quarter before BC scored on back-to-back trips to stretch the lead out to 10. The Hornets on cue executed a 6-0 run to get back to within four with 5:35 to go in the game. Pierson and Corcoran each made a free throw to make it 47-41 with 2:17 on the clock. Greene had a chance for the and-one layup, but the Hornets did one better a Greene missed, and SU grabbed the board. Kimble drained a three-pointer to get the visitors back to within a point with under two minutes to play. Alsberry found Corcoran on a cut and BC stretched the lead to 49-46 with north of 90 seconds to go. Greene went down and scored to make it a one-point game again and the Hornets got the stop they needed. Greene drove down the floor, but Alsberry poked her pass away and SU had to foul. Freeman made a pair at the line and SU drove down the floor but was stopped again. This time Ford made a pair at the stripe to push BC ahead 53-48. Freeman iced it away with a make at the line with four seconds to go.
MATCH NOTES
- Corcoran led BC with 14 points highlighted by 10 makes at the charity stripe to tie the most by an Eagle in a single game this season.
- Greene led SU with 16 points and added eight rebounds. Kimble added 14 points on just two made field goals.
- Alsberry was just a point and pair of blocks away from a five-by-five with four points, 12 rebounds, five assists, five steals, and three blocks.
- Both teams shot under 30% from the floor. SU was 25.8% while BC held a slight edge at 27.3%.
