Bennison Earns 100th Career Win in Dominating Fashion

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College Men's Soccer Coach Ryan Bennison earned his 100th career victory on Saturday as the Eagles dominated Guilford 5-1

The Basics
Score: Bridgewater 5, Guilford 1
Records: Bridgewater 6-2-3 (2-1-0 ODAC), Guilford 3-8-0 (0-4-0 ODAC)

How It Happened
  • Guilford opened the game pushing for offense and fired a shot, but it missed well high. The Eagles wasted no time in responding and cashed in as Ali Malik found Riley Queen in the box to make it 1-0 for the Eagles eight minutes in. BC kept on the attack and was rewarded as a foul inside the box gave the Eagles a penalty kick. Zach Jarvis took it and fired a shot off the left post and in to make it 2-0 in the 11th minute.
  • The Quakers were able to strike back as a corner kick in the 21st minute gave GC a chance. The kick was cleared out of the box by the Eagles, but a missile from just outside by Ken Vazque got Guilford on the board at 2-1. BC responded immediately as as Malik received a pass in deep and had his shot turned away by Christopher Kelley. Trey Widrick scooped up the loose change and scored to make it a multi-goal lead once again. Each team had multiple chances down the stretch, but neither capitalized to send it to the half at a 3-1 BC lead.
  • Bridgewater extended the lead in the opening minutes of the second half as Malik fired another shot on goal and Kelley looked to have it stopped, but it slipped out of his hands and spun into the goal to make it 4-1 for the Eagles in the 50th minute.
  • BC kept pushing as multiple corner kicks came up empty. Bridgewater finally broke through again as Widrick sent a feed across the box to Queen and he buried his shot to make it 5-1 with 30 minutes to play. Each team had chances down the stretch including one with seven minutes to play that went off of the chest of Will Flores for BC, but just missed the cage.
Match Notes
  • Queen, Malik and Widrick all had multiple points on the day to fuel the offense. Malik's goal and a pair of assists tied with Quen's two goals for the team high.
  • Charles Schweinefuss made just one save on the two shots he faced, Kelley tallied 10 saves for the Quakers.
  • The Eagles dominated the stat sheet, highlighted by a 228 advantage in shots and a 16-2 edge in shots on goal.
  • With the victory, Bennison the first coach in Bridgewater College Men's Soccer history to reach the century mark in victories.
