Men's Soccer's Falls Against Lynchburg

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's soccer team fell to Lynchburg 1-0.

How It Happened
  • The Hornets were on the offensive early, but a shot by Ali Malik on target got the Eagles offense rolling in the opening 90 seconds. Lynchburg fired a flurry of shots to the crease with each getting blocked and eventually bouncing out to the corner as Reid Rouse sent a ball in that was redirected by Zach Whelan for the tally to make it 1-0 five minutes in.
  • Lynchburg stayed on the attack launching multiple shots down the stretch but none found the target sending the game to the break at the same 1-0 line.
  • The Eagles got some offense going in the second half as Riley Queen registered a shot wide of the cage. The teams traded chances with Lynchburg firing a shot on target, but a save by Charles Schweinefuss kept the deficit at just a goal with under 30 minute to play.
  • The Eagles had a great chance late as the speed of the BC front line kept the offense afloat. Trey Widrick fired a shot on goal inside of 30 seconds to go, but a save by Thomas Viscuso kept the shutout intact.

  • Queen led the BC offense as he was the only Eagle with multiple shots.  
  • Benjamin Velasquez  fueled the Lynchburg attack with three shots, but none on target.
  • Viscuso made a pair of saves in the shutout, while Schweinefuss made three saves for BC.
  • Lynchburg held a healthy 18-6 advantage in the shot count including a 5-2 margin In shots on target.
