How It Happened
- The Tigers put pressure on the Eagles early, earning a corner kick in the first minute, but they were unable to convert.
- HS-C had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the sixth minute when Walker Stebbings got behind the defense for a 1v1 with Eagles keeper Charles Schweinefuss. The BC keeper came off his line to challenge Stebbings near the top of the box. Stebbings' shot caromed off the Eagles keeper and headed toward the goal, but the shot was cleared off the line by a BC defender to keep the contest scoreless.
- The Eagles got off their first shot in the eighth minute when Tony Chavez fired from deep but missed wide.
- The Tigers continued to mount offense, but a shot from inside the box from Victor Ovalle-Mares was stopped by Schweinefuss.
- Hampden-Sydney's offensive forays finally paid off in the 33rd minute when Mason Dudley dropped a pass back to teammate Pierce Boerner and Boerner's shot found the back of the net for a 1-0 Hampden-Sydney lead.
- Play was contained in the midfield for the early part of the second half. BC earned a corner kick in the 64th minute, but the Tigers cleared the ball out of the box. The Eagles maintained possession and a shot by Colin Tibbs was turned away by Tigers' keeper Wills Huddleston.
- Ten minutes later, the Eagles were back on the offensive with a corner kick opportunity. Riley Queen's shot from out top was blocked, but the Eagles kept the ball and Queen had another opportunity but his shot from inside the box was turned away by Huddleston.
Match Notes
- After being outshot by the Tigers 10-2 in the first half, the Eagles held a 6-5 edge in shots in the second half of play.
- Schweinefuss finished with six saves and was tested only once in the second half.
- The Tigers have not lost to the Eagles in the past six meetings. HS-C has four wins, and two matches ended in a draw. The Eagles last defeated the Tigers in 2016.
