BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team fell to Averett 8-1 on Wednesday in ODAC play.
The Cougars swept the doubles points, but faced a tough test at No. 2.

Malena Hoover hung around on court two, but a late service break ended up giving the match to the Cougars 5-8.Â
In singles play Hoover and
Ryan Roeber each had tight opening sets, dropping the opening frame 3-6 at No. 3 and No. 4 respectively. Averett got the second sets on each court to secure the match.
Emily Wylie dropped her opening set 3-6 as well on court five, but stormed back to take the second 6-4 to force a match tiebreak. The junior fell behind 2-6 early in the breaker but clicked off three straight points to get back to 5-6 before coming up short 7-10.
Kaci Pitsenbarger picked up the win for BC at the No. 6 spot. Pitsenbarger fell behind a service break at 2-4 and had her back against the wall but managed to get the ate break and reel off four straight games to take the opening set 7-5. The Mount Solon native fell behind an early break once again in the second and got it back immediately. Pitsenbarger closed the match out ith a late break of her own and a service hold to take the set and the match 7-5.Â
BC is back in action with a pair of important matches next wee beginning with Lynchburg on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
