BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team fell to Lynchburg 8-1 on Wednesday in ODAC action.
The Hornets swept the three doubles points but a pair of 6-8 matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots kept the action close.
Malena Hoover and
Grace Knighton traded service breaks on court two before a late hold by the Hornets decided the match. On court three,
Emily Wylie and
Emily Daigneault fought off a match point before dropping the match.
Emma Nesselrodt dropped the opening set 0-6 and fell behind 2-5 before rallying off three straight games to make it 5-5 in the business end of set number two. The senior eventually fell 5-7 but not without a valiant comeback effort.Â
Hoover and Knighton saw their fair share of tiebreaks in singles action. Hoover dropped the opening set 4-6 before forcing a tiebreak in the second frame. The senior came up just short 6-7(5). Knighton grabbed her opening set 6-3 before dropping the second set in a breaker 6-7(3). The sophomore battled in the match tiebreak and saved two match points including a big passing shot winner before falling 10-12.
Wylie picked up the lone win for BC on the day at th No. 6 spot prevailing 8-6.
The Eagles are back in action on Friday as they host Roanoke.Â
