BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team fell to Roanoke 5-4 in a tight battle.
In doubles action, BC picked up an 8-1 victory at the No. 3 spot as
Emily Wylie and
Emily Daigneault cruised to give BC a 1-0 advantage. The No. 2 spot featured a battle as
Grace Knighton and
Malena Hoover stayed on serve through the majority of the set forcing a tiebreak. The tiebreak stayed on serve until the very end as a late mini break gave the Maroons the match 7-8(5).
Roanoke was able to take a 4-1 lead in the match score after taking wins at No.2 and No. 3 singles. The Maroons were just a pair of games away from taking the match as
Emma Nesselrodt trailed 2-6, 1-4 before digging deep and coming back and securing the second set 6-4 forcing a third. Nesselrodt used the momentum to jump ahead 4-1 in the third set before a quick turn of events made the match 4-4. The senior got the service break and held to secure the match and keep the team win possible.Â
The Maroons were able to secure the team win with a narrow victory at No. 4 spot but wins from
Kaci Pitsenbarger and
Emily Wylie at the No. 6 and No. 5 spots respectively made it 5-4.
Bridgewater is back in action on Tuesday as it makes the trip up I-81 to battle Shenandoah in a key ODAC matchup.Â
