How it HappenedÂ
- The two sides traded possessions in the opening minutes of the frame but the Eagles settled in with multiple corner kicks in succession. Kendall Garza got the only shot off during the exchange as her attempt was blocked by a Hornet and out of play. Shenandoah had a free kick at the midfield stripe, but the BC back line spoiled any scoring chance.
- BC got on the board first in the 15th minute as Laura Narby made a run up the far wing. Narby created space and sent a cross in where Lyric Birkley stood unmarked in the box and volleyed it in to make 1-0. Birkley had a chance to strike again a few moments later but Karissa Dominick made the save. Neither side could gain an advantage down the stretch in the opening half. BC had another opportunity with a series of throws in the attacking end, but no shots were registered. A free kick in a dangerous spot gave the hornets a chance and the kick went on target and Carlee Gaboury made the save. SU looked for another chance to attack on a run on the far side. The shot was deflected and Gaboury scooped it up to make keep the game scoreless heading to the break.
- Bridgewater had a pair of chances early as Narby fired a shot wide and Skyler Daum put a shot on net that was saved by Dominic. BC had a free kick from just outside the 18' after Birkley was fouled. Daum took two shots but both were blocked up front. Shenandoah looked to counter, but a win by Nugent in the defensive end fought off the chance.
- The BC offense stayed on the front foot once more as Birkley found Daum on the wing. Daum fired a shot just wide of the cage leading to a goal kick. Another BC chance developed off of the goal kick but a cross into the box crossed the end line for another goal kick. BC had another chance with a corner kick that swung into the box and bounced around but Dominic fell on it to keep it a 1-0 game.
- The Hornets looked to crank up the pressure down the stretch and fired a pair of shots including one from the near post but neither found the target. BC flipped the field as Birkley and Daum each had chances to extend the lad but neither shot found the net. Shenandoah made an adjustment in the final five minutes pushing for offense the Hornets had multiple chances but no shots materialized.
