The Basics

Final Score: Bridgewater 5, Ferrum 0
Records: Bridgewater 10-5-0 (5-3-0 ODAC), Ferrum 7-7-1 (2-6-0 ODAC)

How it Happened
  • The Eagles got on the attack early as Laura Narby fired a shot on goal in the third minute and Ashli Wuss made the save for Ferrum. BC was able to settle in and got a corner kick. Lyric Birkley fired a shot off the attempt, but had it blocked. After a shot wide from Kendall Garza, the Panthers had their first attacking chance but missed wide of the cage.
  • Bridgewater kept the attack on as Birkley, Narby, Katelyn Seagraves and Alicia Keo all fired shots, but none found the back of the net. The attack play led to another Eagle's corner kick in the 36th minute and the pressure finally paid off ad Skyler Daum's kick found Hannah Nugent in the box for the tally. Keo had a decent look and missed wide but the continued attack worked again as Garza found Madeline Bohan and the senior buried her shot to make it 2-0 for the visitors with five minutes left in the half.
  • Ferrum started out with a pair of chances in the early going on free kicks but neither netted a scoring opportunity. Off of the latter Birkley had a scoring chance and would not be denied as the sophomore put the Eagles ahead 3-0 just under seven minutes into the second half. Ferrum had a chance to make something happen off of the kickoff, but the play was blown dead as it was offside.
  • BC's front line kept rolling as Birkley had a chance for her second tally that was blocked. Narby scooped up the loose change but missed wide of the crease. After some substitutions the mindset didn't change for coach Mike Van Horn's crew as a throw in in the offensive zone led to another chance. Brynn Dempsey had her shot blocked and Anna Zurlo found the rebound and scored. Zurlo wanted another tally 90 seconds later as she tried to sneak one in on the near post, but it was saved by Wuss.
  • Keo and Bohan each had chances with shots, but a save by Wuss kept the game at just a four-goal difference. After a shot Ferrum goal kick Bridgewater went back to work. Keo found Zurlo open, and she did indeed get her second goal of the game to make it 5-0 with 11 minutes to play. Multiple Eagles had chances down the stretch including Allison Quick, Micah Stine and Maureen Keating, but both had their shots saved by Wuss in the closing minutes.

Match Notes

  • Zurlo and Birkley run their point streak to three games in the win. Zurlo also pushed her stat line on the week to three goals and an assist while Birkley has found the back of the net in three consecutive games.
  • Narby recorded a game-high eight shots while Zurlo's four on target led both sides.
  • Wuss made 14 saves for Ferrum while Carlee Gaboury did not face a shot on target for the third consecutive game.
  • The Eagles amassed a 40-5 shot advantage. This is the first time in program history BC has recorded back-to-back 40 shot games and is the first time since 2016 that the Eagles registered multiple such games in a season.
