How It Happened
- The Eagles opened the night with a second chance opportunity as Jaden Alsberry grabbed a rebound for the Eagles and would lay it back in for the early lead. The Yellow Jackets responded on the other end with a long ball from Devan Conrad to take an early 3-2 advantage. Back-to-back buckets for the Eagles from Riley Corcoran and Abby Branner put BC back in front, but another Yellow Jacket three knotted the game at 6-6. Neither side was able to pull away by multiple possessions until late in the opening frame when Catherine Kagey knocked down two jumpers for R-MC to take a 12-8 advantage. BC knocked down two big shots in the final minute to knot the game but a free throw from Cait Velez put the Yellow Jackets in front after the opening 10 minutes.
- The second quarter featured much of the same defensive style of play with neither team taking much of an edge. Corocran drove to the lane and laid it in to put BC in front with the opening basket of the quarter and, on the next possession, found Abby Freeman for an easy two in transition for a four-point advantage. The Yellow Jackets worked back to tie the contest but a free throw and a bucket from Corcoran extend the lead back out to three, but R-MC was able to strangle the lead back. Erika Nettles put the Eagles ahead in the final minute of the half but a last second steal and layup by Kagey tied the game up at 26-26 heading to the intermission.
- Bridgewater opened the third quarter with consecutive buckets from Nettles and Branner to take a four-point lead, but similar to the first half Conrad nailed a triple to stop the BC momentum. Randolph-Macon slowly took the lead back by a point before buckets by Alsberry on consecutive trips gave BC another three-point lead. Bridgewater led by as much as four in the quarter with a minute left after a Freeman layup on a second chance effort. The Yellow Jackets were able to muster together a 5-0 stretch in the final 47 seconds capped off by a Morgan Miller layup at the buzzer to take a 41-40 lead into the final stanza.
- Twelve seconds in India Dailey took a pass from Alsberry and laid it in to but Bridgewater back in front. Randolph-Macon knocked down a basket on the other end and did not look back. A 16-0 run for R-MC spanning 8:25 silenced the BC offense. The Yellow Jackets were 7/13 from the field over the span while the Eagles were 0/8 with five turnovers. Bridgewater was able to end the game on a 4-0 run over the final minute and change, but that was not enough as the Yellow Jackets walked away with the victory.
