HOW IT HAPPENED
- A Riley Corcoran basket put the first points on the board in an emotional environment inside Nininger Hall before a pair of Erika Nettles free throws doubled the lead leading up to J'la Hinson layup to get the Quakers on the board with 8:29 left in the first. Both sides traded scores for the next several minutes before a 9-0 run over two and a half minutes gave Guilford a 13-6 lead. A pair of free throws and a clutch three from Rosemary Pierson drew the lead down to just two points at 13-11 with 3:03 showing on the clock. The Quakers responded with back-to-back threes to retake an eight-point advantage, followed by two shots from the charity stripe for a 21-11 lead with under two minutes left. Guilford led 23-15 after the opening quarter.
- Jaden Alsberry started the second quarter with a layup off a helper from Nettles and India Dailey drilled a triple to cut the deficit down to three points, 23-20, just a minute into the frame. Once again, GC fired back with a three of its own to double to lead to six points. Down 26-20, the Eagles mounted a 12-1 run over the next four and a half minutes, including draining 5-of-8 shots from the floor, to assume a 32-27 lead with four minutes left in the half. Lindsay Gauldin ended the run with a layup that was followed by another three from Dailey, who scored 10 points in the first half, but the Quakers scored six-unanswered points to close out the last 45 seconds of the half and took a 35-34 lead into the break.
- Both sides exchanged scores to open the second half before an 8-1 run over a three minutes stretch pushed Bridgewater back in front, 44-40, with 3:53 left in regulation. The Eagles took as large as a six-point lead down the stretch of the quarter but the Quakers again scored key late buckets to set the score at 48-45 in favor of BC heading into the last 10 minutes.
- Alsberry dropped in a layup to start off the final quarter to put BC up five, but GC put up a three and a layup to erase the lead with 8:46 left in regulation. Both sides exchanged baskets as Alsberry dropped in a free throw with 7:15 left to put the Eagles up 53-52, but an 8-3 run over the next five minutes allowed Guilford to take a 60-56 lead. Abby Branner hit a layup with 11 seconds to go to make it a one-possession game at 60-58, but Anna Giannopoulou nailed a jumper on the other end to put the game out of reach as the Eagles fell 62-58.
