Women's Soccer Falls 1-0 to Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Mary Washington Wednesday evening.

How It Happened
  • Bridgewater got the first scoring Opportunity just over five minutes in. Kaia Richardson fired a shot that was turned away by Ally Holden. Seconds later Holden turned away Lexi Winkler's shot to keep the game scoreless. 
  • BC had two corner kicks around the 14th minute but were not able to make anything of it as both were cleared without a shot. 
  • Under a minute into the second half Alicia Keo had an opportunity for Bridgewater but missed her shot over the crossbar, keeping the game knotted 0-0.
  • In the 71st minute Mary Washington got their first, and only shot on net. Off of a corner kick Amanda Krest found the back of the net to give UMW a 1-0 lead late in the second half.
  • Bridgewater did not go away. Two Mary Washington yalow cards in a four minute stretch gave BC some momentum and multiple free kick opportunities. In the 85th minute the captain Hanna Randolph got a shot off but Holden turned it away. Bridgewater had one last opportunity in the final minute with a corner kick but did not get a shot off before time expired.
Match Notes
  • Four different Eagles put a shot on goal in the loss. Keo, Winkler, Randolph and Richardson all had their shots turned away by Holden in a defensive battle.
  • Keo and Krest were the only twomplayers in the game with multiple shots as each registered two.
  • BC out shot UMW 5-3 and held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
  • The goal by Krest in the 71st minute ends a 438:07 shutout streak for Bridgewater. The streak was tied for the fourth longest in school history with another four game stretch back in 2000.
  • The Eagles wrap up non-conference play after today's game and shift into ODAC play for the remainder of the regular season.
