Women's Soccer Defeats Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Bridgewater College women's soccer team braved the elements and defeated Guilford 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
  • The Quakers had the first opportunity in the second minute off of a corner kick. Jenna Shotton got a shot off but it was turned aside by Carlee Gaboury
  • In the 23rd minute Ashley Sabatino had multiple chances for the Eagles. Sabatino fired her first shot that was turned away by Ady Franken. A few seconds later, Hannah Nugent found Sabatino and she was not denied on the second attempt to put BC ahead 1-0.
  • Right out of the intermission the Eagles had two corner kicks. On the first BC did not register a shot, but directly off of the second Hanna Randolph sent the corner in and Alicia Keo corralled it and scored to put Bridgewater in front 2-0 and gave Randolph her 22nd career assist tying her for second most in program history.
  • The Eagles ramped the pressure up once again in the 60th minute as they got a corner kick but did not register a shot from it. Three minutes later Lyric Birkley found Kaia Richardson as the senior fired her shot into the back of the net to put BC ahead 3-0.
  • The Quakers had an opportunity in the 67th minute as Madison Green got a shot off that was saved by Gaboury. Guilford registered one more shot down the stretch but it sailed wide of the crease.
Match Notes
  • Sabatino fired a game high seven shots and four of them were on goal. Both tallies are season highs for the Scarborough, Maine native.
  • Gaboury turned away all three shots she faced in the win. Franken turned away seven shots on the day for Guilford.
  • Bridgewater held a 20-5 advantage in shots and a 10-3 edge in shots on goal.
  • Each team had three corner kicks on the afternoon. All of Bridgewater's came in the second half.
  • Sabatino, Keo and Richardson all netted their fourth goals on the season in the win tying them with Lyric Birkley for them team lead.
