BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College field hockey team opened its 2022 home slate with a 3-1 win against Sweet Briar under the lights at the Jopson Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bridgewater garnered the first scoring chances of the game in the first quarter with several penalty corners in a row but could not put anything on target. The first 15 minutes eclipsed with no score.
- Sweet Briar began the second frame with a chance that was blocked away, but it was the Eagles who struck first as Kylie Amberger and Emily Tyler broke free together as Amberger fed Tyler for an easy score under three minutes into the quarter.The 1-0 scoreline held through the end of the half as Bridgewater enjoyed a first-half lead in its home opener.
- The Vixens came out aggressive in the second half with quick chances that eventually led to a goal by Jolin Daughtety to notch the game at 1-1. The last eight minutes of the period ticked away with neither side gaining chances.
- Bridgewater was able to gain some momentum toward the end of the third quarter and came out for the final 15 mminutes strong. Daphne Daymude laced a shot from distance to put the Eagles back into the lead for the second time of the night. The goal served to be the game winner as the Eagles tacked on one more as Amora Marchand registered her first collegiate goal to push the lead to 3-1, which held to the final.
MATCH STATS
- Daymude, Marchand and Tyler all recorded goals in the win, while Amberger tallied her first career assist to add to her statline with four shots in the game.
- Madalyn Miller stopped all four shots that she faced, while Ashley Maggiora made two saves with three goals against.
- As a team, Bridgewater held a 12-6 edge in shots while also garnering an 8-3 edge in penalty corner opportunities.
