SALEM, Va. - The No. 5 Bridgewater College softball team fell 1-0 to No. 4 Roanoke to open the 2022 ODAC Softball Championship.

• Records: No. 5 Bridgewater (23-18), No. 4 Roanoke (27-10)

How It Happened

• Kathryn Thomas recorded the first hit of the game for Bridgewater in the bottom of the second on a single to right field. The junior would be left stranded to end the top half of the inning before Roanoke tallied a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the frame to take a 1-0 edge
• Avery Pinder and Jazmyne Smith recorded hits in the third and fourth innings, respectively, but the Eagles offense struggled to bring them home. The Bridgewater defense was lights out with Thomas, Pinder and Torie Shifflett all making crucial plays to limit the Maroons to one run but it was not enough as the Eagles fell 1-0

Match Notes

• Brooklynn Fridley, Smith, Morgan Lucas, Thomas, Kaitlyn Tirona and Pinder all posted hits as the Eagles outhit the Maroons 6-3
• Samantha Martin tossed a complete game, allowing three hits and no earned runs
