Wimer Records 100 Career Hits in Doubleheader Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College softball senior Sarah Wimer notched her 100th career hit in a doubleheader split with Pfeiffer on Sunday at Fulk Field.

Game One

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater 4, Pfeiffer 3
  • Records: Bridgewater (9-6), Pfeiffer (10-6)

How It Happened

  • After being walked, rookie Hannah Mahan stole second and advanced to third base on a wild pitch the start the game for the Eagles. She would cross home and score the first run of the day on a Annaliese Franklin RBI single to right field
  • Mahan continued to get on base, this time with a double to left center in the bottom of the third. She repeated her performance from the first inning by heading to third on a wild pitch and made it a 2-0 game on a Jazmyne Smith double to left center
  • Torie Shifflett led the bottom of the fifth inning off with a double to right center and would later cross home on a Mahan single to right field for a 3-0 Eagle edge. The final Eagle run of the day came thanks to an error by the Falcons catcher to enter the seventh with a 4-0 advantage
  • Pfeiffer added on three runs in the top of the seventh inning and had two runners on base before a critical double play by the Eagles ended the game and secured the 4-3 victory for Bridgewater

Match Notes

  • Shifflett and Mahan each posted two hits with Smith, Wimer and Franklin adding one each. Both of Shifflett's swings were doubles
  • Brantley Swift pitched a complete game, allowing ten hits while striking out nine Falcons

Game Two

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater 1, Pfeiffer 2 (8 innings)
  • Records: Bridgewater (9-7), Pfeiffer (11-6)

How It Happened

  • After a scoreless three innings and just one hit recorded by both teams, Wimer hit her ODAC-leading sixth home run to put the Eagles up 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth. The advantage did not last long as the Falcons led off the fifth frame with homer of their own to tie it at 1-1
  • Wimer and Brooklynn Fridley both recorded hits in innings six and seven but the Eagles could not capitalize as the game entered extra innings. With a runner placed on second, the Falcons scored to make it 2-1 and put the pressure on the Eagles. A Mahan single set the Eagles up, but a controversial call on the next at-bat took away the potential tying run for Bridgewater and ended the game in favor of the Falcons

Match Notes

  • Wimer's homer was also her 100th career hit. She recorded hit 101 on a single to center field in the sixth inning
  • Mahan and Fridley joined Wimer with two hits each
  • Samantha Martin started the contest, pitching the first five innings and allowing two hits and one earned run with three strikeouts. Emma Killion pitched the final three frames, allowing one hit and striking out two batters

Up Next

  • The Eagles return to Fulk Field on Wednesday, March 23 when they host Marymount for another non-conference doubleheader. Action is set for 3:00 p.m.
