Softball Hits Three Homers in Sweep of Mary Baldwin

BRIDGEWATER, Va.  - Sarah Wimer and Jazmyne Smith teamed up for three home runs as part of 19 total team hits in Bridgewater College softball's Tuesday night sweep of Mary Baldwin.

Game One

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater 10, Mary Baldwin 2
  • Records: Bridgewater (6-5), Mary Baldwin (5-7-1)

How It Happened

  • A seven-run first inning propelled the Eagles to an early edge, scoring all seven runs with two outs on the board. A Kaitlyn Tirona sacrific fly in the second allowed Sarah Wimer to cross home for an 8-0 edge
  • Mary Baldwin tacked on two runs in the top of third to make it 8-2 before Avery Pinder stole second and ran all the way home on back-to-back Fighting Squirrel errors to make it 9-2 Eagles
  • Pinch hitter Erin Dameron earned an RBI in the bottom of the sixth to send Smith home and give the Eagles an eight run advantage to end the game early

Match Notes

  • Torie Shifflett posted three hits and two RBIs to pace BC
  • Wimer, Pinder and Annaliese Franklin all contributed two hits while Morgan Lucas, Tirona and Pinder each added two RBIs. Pinder also stole two bases 
  • Emma Killion earned the win from the circle, pitching three innings allowing two hits. Kearstone Bruce pitched the fourth and fifth innings, allowing two hits. Brantley Swift pitched the final inning, allowing one hit

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgewater 6, Mary Baldwin 0
  • Records: Bridgewater (7-5), Mary Baldwin (5-8-1)

How It Happened

  • After a scoreless and hitless three innings, Brooklynn Fridley broke the game open on a single. Pinder followed it up with a single of her own to load the bases. After a Shifflett sacrifice fly, Samantha Martin crossed home after an obstruction on the Mary Baldwin catcher to take a 1-0 edge
  • With Fridley and Pinder still on base, Smith hit a three RBI homer to make it a 4-0 game. Wimer joined the parade with a home run of her own to make it 5-0
  • Wimer wasn't done yet as she hit her second home run of the day to open the sixth inning and score the Eagles final run of the day

Match Notes

  • Wimer and Pinder had two hits each while Smith and Wimer's home runs gave them three and two RBIs, respectively
  • Martin pitched a complete game, allowing three hits and earning five strikeouts

  • Bridgewater will travel to Greensboro for a doubleheader with the Pride on Saturday, March 19. Action is set for 1:00 p.m.
