The Basics

Final Score: Bridgewater 52, Mary Baldwin 35
Records: Bridgewater 1-0, Mary Baldwin 0-1

How It Happened
  • It took nearly five minutes for either team to get on the board as Riley Corcoran broke the knot from downtown to give Bridgewater a 3-0 lead until Mary Baldwin answered with a three-pointer of their own on the very next possession.
  • Bridgewater ended the quarter with a Abby Branner layup to crawl ahead 12-5 after the first 10 minutes.
  • BC put together a 8-2 run to extend their lead to ten after a Reagan Maynard made free throw with just over a minute left in the second quarter. The Fighting Squirrels scored four unanswered including a layup at the buzzer to make it 23-17 heading into the intermission.
  • MBU closed the lead to three out of the break with a layup and a free throw, but BC had the answer scoring ten unanswered with six of them coming from Jasmyn Pierce. In total the Eagles outscored the Fighting Squirrels 15-7 in the third quarter to take a 38-24 lead into the final frame.
  • The fourth quarter was much of the same story as Mary Baldwin opened with two straight buckets but Bridgewater had the answers as Maynard drove down the lane for a layup and also connected with Erika Nettles on the next possession to give Bridgewater a 14 point advantage. The Fighting Squirrels scored their final field goal with six minutes still to go in the contest. BC added two Corcoran free throws and a Branner Layup in the closing stages.
