BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater women's basketball team picked up a 55-44 win over Maryville in game one of the Ferrum Tip-Off Classic on Saturday.

How It Happened
- The Eagles scored the opening bucket as Reagan Maynard found Erika Nettles. BC jumped out to a 8-1 lead just inside of four minutes into the game after Abby Freeman found India Dailey on the fast break and the sophomore laid it in for two. The Scots did not fade as they closed out the frame on a 11-4 run to tie the game 12-12 after the first quarter.
- Maryville took its first lead of the night with 7:01 to play in the second quarter on back-to-back three-pointers from Courtney Carruthers and Madison Williams. The Scots stretched their lead out to as much as six before Rosemary Pierson knocked one down from long range cutting the lead in half.
- Bridgewater closed the second quarter on a 9-2 run to take a 28-24 advantage into the intermission. Pierson nailed another three-pointer with 1:44 to go in the half to put BC back in front.
- Despite Maryville scoring its first basket from the field in five minutes to open the third quarter, the BC momentum snowballed. The Eagles out scored the Scots 21-7 in the quarter and stretched their lead to 18 points entering the fourth quarter ahead 49-31.
- In the final frame the Scots started to slowly chip away at the Eagles lead but two Jaden Alsberry buckets kept the lead at 14 with five minutes to play. Maryville was able to close the gap down to 10 with under a minute left, but a Maynard free throw at the other end extended it to 55-44 in the final seconds.
Match Notes
- Abby Branner led a well spread BC attack with nine points and Pierson has eight. 10 different players scored on the night for the Eagles and eight had multiple buckets.
- Carruthers tallied a game high 18 points for the Scots. She and Pierson were the only two players from either side to knock down multiple shots from beyond the arc on the night.
- Maynard picked up a team high four steals and four assists in the win. Freeman and Alsberry led the Eagles effort on the glass with five rebounds each.
- Bridgewater had a healthy advantage in field goal percentage shooting at 40.4% and holding Maryville to just 29.4% from the floor.
- The Eagles start the season with back-to-back victories for the first time since the 2020-21 COVID-19 shortened season where BC finished 4-0 at the top of the ODAC standings.
