Eagles to Hold Senior Day on Saturday

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College football team hosts Washington and Lee on Saturday as the team holds Senior Day before the regular season home finale.

Bridgewater vs. Washington and Lee
When
: Saturday, November 5, 2022
Where: Bridgewater, Va.
Stadium: Jopson Athletic Complex
Kickoff: 2:00 pm
Gameday Forecast: Partly Cloudy
    High: 71; Low: 45; Rain: 15%
Series Record: WLU leads, 30-21

SCOUTING THE GENERALS: The Generals enter this weekend's game in the midst of a two-game losing skid dropping a thriller to Hampden-Sydney two weeks ago and falling to No. 16 Randolph-Macon on Saturday. WLU comes in among the nation's leaders in rushing with 284.4 yards per game on the ground good enough for the best mark in the ODAC and the seventh best in Division III. On the contrary, the Generals wing-based offense sits 234th in the country in passing yards. On the other side of the ball WLU ranks second in the conference allowing just 14.4 points per game. A lot of that is due to their control of the possession clock ranking second in the ODAC and 12th nationally in time of possession.

WASHINGTON AND LEE HEAD COACH:  Garrett LeRose enters his fourth season as the head coach of the Generals. LeRose graduated from the Lexington, Va. school in 2007 and has been a part of the staff since. Not much has changed stylistically under LeRose as the Generals continue their triple-option style out of the double wing. WLU led all of college football in rushing in 2015 and 2016 while LeRose was an assistant on the offensive side of the ball for the Generals.

LAST MEETING: The Generals pitched a shutout downing BC 17-0 last season at Wilson Field. Josh Breece had a pair of touchdown carries for the Generals and Arturo Ramirez added a field goal in the third quarter. The Generals rushed the ball 71 times for 309 yards compared to just going two of eight in the passing game. The defense for WLU limited BC to just seven first downs and 118 yards of total offense. The defense also had the offense to thank as they chewed up 41:35 in time of possession.

ALL-TIME SERIES: Today is the 52nd meeting between the two programs seperated by about an hour on I-81. The first meeting between the two institutions took place in 1964 with the Generals picking up a 24-16 victory.  In the last 10 meetings the Generals hold a 6-4 advantage. During that stretch Washington and Lee has only defeated the Eagles one time in consecutive season in 2017 and 2018. All-time, WLU leads the series 30-21.

DUAL-THREAT LINEMAN: Sophomore defensive lineman Tucker Harris showed off his array of talents last week as he grabbed his first career interception before following that up with his first career touchdown catch. Harris batted a pass into the air and came down with it for his INT and came in on a goal line set where he made a wide-open catch to garner his first career score. Harris has the second-most sacks on the Eagles this year.

POINTS POINTS AND MORE POINTS: The Eagles are averaging 33.4 points per game through eight games this season and have scored at least 45 in three games, including a pair of contests with over 50 points. Bridgewater tallied a 58-10 win earlier this season and last week hit the half-century mark again with a 52-28 win against Ferrum. The only game this year the Eagles failed to score 20 points was the loss at No. 16
Randolph-Macon.

SENIOR DAY: Before today's game, the Bridgewater College Athletic Department and the football team will honor its 2022 seniors. The group of men arrived in Bridgewater for the 2019 season when the team claimed its seventh ODAC Championship and have already achieved another great season as a capstone on their careers. Senior members of the band and cheer team will also be recognized before the game, as well.

SPOOKY SZN: The Bridgewater College offense exploded for 666 yards on Halloween weekend in a victory at Ferrum last time out. The Eagles racked up 437 yards through the air, including 225 from Malcolm Anderson, and 229 yards on the ground, with 147 coming from Ronald Robinson Jr. Montez Green grabbed seven passes for 105 yards for the freshman's first 100-yard receiving game of his collegiate career. Dylan Maclachlan and Viante Tucker each had touchdown catches, including Tucker's 52-yarder where he made a one-handed grab.

REGIONAL RANKING: Bridgewater found themselves ranked in the NCAA Regional Rankings released on Wednesday. The Eagles were one of two ODAC teams to make an appearance in the debut of the rankings for 2022. The next poll will be released on Nov. 9 and will feature rankings unlike the initial listing that features all teams sorted alphabetically.

OTHER BRIDGEWATER TEAMS IN ACTION: The Bridgewater men's basketball program opens the 2022 slate on Saturday with an exhibition against Div. I High Point. The program returns reigning ODAC Rookie of the Year Shod Smith in head coach Steve Enright's fourth year at the helm of the program. The women's basketball program opens its season on Tuesday against Mary Baldwin as the men play its first matchup against a Division III opponent at Marymount just outside of the Nation's Capital.

OTHER WASHINGTON AND LEE TEAMS IN ACTION: The Generals have a busy day across the athletic world as their men's soccer team is set to compete for an ODAC title as they will battle Roanoke in the championship match. Their field hockey team will also have a chance to bring home hardware as they too have a chance at an ODAC crown. The WLU wrestling team opens it's season at the Messiah Invitational and the Generals riding team takes on the WaHoos as they travel to the University of Virginia.

NEXT TIME OUT: Bridgewater closes out the regular season on the road against Guilford. The game will kick off at 1 pm in Greensboro, North Carolina.
