Men's Basketball Falls To Penn. State Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Bridgewater men's basketball team fell to Penn State Harrisburg 75-63 on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
  • The Eagles opened the game with a pair of baskets by Alec Topper and Cooper Hawk to jump out to a 4-0 lead before the Nittany Lions responded with a layup of their own on the very next possession. PSU took their first lead of the contest after a free throw and layup at 5-4 before Landon Hawes drained a three-pointer to put the Eagles back in front 7-5 with 13:03 to go in the opening half.
  • The first half featured many lead changes as both teams traded buckets and runs. BC took a 19-18 advantage with 8:02 to go in the half after Aaron Oates made the back end of two shots at the charity stripe. The Nittany Lions took over the final eight minutes outscoring BC 19-12 down the stretch to take a 37-31 lead into the locker room. 
  • Each team traded baskets to open the frame until Alec Topper drained a bucket from long range to break the cycle and cut the lead to five. Shod Smith fought for a board on the offensive end and put the rebound back up and in cutting the lead down to just three at 41-38. The Nittany Lions started to pull away as they answered with a miniature run of their own to make it 49-38 before a Hawes layup stopped the momentum.
  • After a turnovers on both sides, Penn State Harrisburg slowly started to stretch the lead getting it to as large as 14 points before Smith found Connor Ballou who drained a three-pointer. 
  • The Nittany Lions stretched their advantage to 70-49 with five minutes to play before Oates got a second-chance bucket and basket it up two possessions later ith a layup in transition. In the final five minutes the Eagles were able to put together a 14-3 run to get the lead down to just 10 with a minute left to play but Penn State Harrisburg was able to run the floor and make a layup to ice the game.
 
Match Notes
  • Oates led BC with 15 points and added eight rebounds. Topper was just a point short of a double-double totaling a game high 10 rebounds and nine points. 
  • Chris Haynes had a game to remember for the Nittany Lions racking up 22 points in the win. 
  • Hawes was the only other Eagle in double figures with 11 including three buckets from long range. 
  • PSU took advantage of their offensive rebounds totaling 17 second chance points compared to just seven for Bridgewater.The Nittany Lions knocked it down from long range shooting 11 of 25 from the beyond the arc for a 44% clip.
