Men's Soccer Wins Fourth Straight

DANVILLE, Va. -- Behind a pair of second-half goals, the Bridgewater College men's soccer team earned a 2-0 victory on the road at Averett to record its fourth-straight win.

How It Happened
  • The Cougars got the first chance of the game with a shot from Orion Mills pushed aside by BC goalkeeper Charles Schweinefuss less than seven minutes into the contest.
  • Trevon Phillips tried to get the Eagles on the board less than a minute later, but his attempt was stopped. He had another shot on goal four minutes later that was also saved.
  • Both sides had one more chance on frame in the first half with neither side finding the back of the net as the first 45 minutes ended in a 0-0 draw.
  • The Eagles wasted no time in the second half as Eric Ramirez posted a pair of shots in the first seven minutes on target, including a strike in the 52nd minute that found the back of the net to put BC up 1-0.Lestath Savage was credited with an assist on the go-ahead score.
  • Minutes later, Thomas Vik tallied his second goal of the season to double the Eagles' lead at 2-0. Vik had a chance to get another one on the board later in the half, but it was shoved aside for a corner kick.
  • The 2-0 advantage held for the remaining 30 minutes as the Eagles prevailed.

Match Notes
  • The Bridgewater bench provided all the points as Ramirez, Vik and Savage recorded their goals and assists after subbing in to the game. Ramirez and Vik each finished with two shots, which were both on target.
  • Phillips led all players with three shots - all on frame. 
  • Schweinefuss stopped all five shots that he saw in the win, while Lukas Hanusek pushed aside five of the seven attempts he faced.
  • Both teams recorded eight shots with BC's all on target compared to five from the home side.
  • Averett held a 7-3 edge in corner kicks, but was not able to convert on the set pieces.
