Eagles Take Care of Business on Senior Day

The Basics
Final Score: Bridgewater 7, Lynchburg 1
Records: Bridgewater 12-4-0 (8-1-0 ODAC), Shenandoah 10-6-1 (4-5-0 ODAC)

How It Happened
  • In the third minute Kasie Kilmer came out of the goal to play a pass from one of her teammates from Shenandoah but did not field the pass cleanly as Hanna Randolph corralled it and put it into the back of the net to put BC ahead 1-0.
  • It was another similar play in the 10th minute as Madison Crooks got a shot off but Kilmer came well out of the crease to make the stop leaving the rebound at the feet of Ashley Sabatino to bury it home to put BC ahead 2-0 just 10 minutes in.
  • Sabatino was not done yet. The junior threaded a pass to Katelyn Seagraves up field and she took it the distance and put it in the back of the net to put the Eagles out in front 3-0 in the 25th minute.
  • Shenandoah got on the board in the 41st minute as Kayla Jenkins fired a shot from well outside the box just past the outstretched arms of Megan Byle for a SU goal. It was the first time Byle had been scored on in her entire senior season. Bridgewater responded less than two minutes later as Allison Quick threaded the needle and got a pass to Seagraves who carried it down and in for her second score of the game and to put the Eagles on top 4-1 heading to the break.
  • In the 56th minute Kaia Richardson found the back of the net as Sabatino hit the senior on a nice run into the box to extend the Eagles lead to 5-1. Less than five minutes later Skyler Daum took a corner kick for the Eagles and it found Lyric Birkley who knocked it straight into the ground off of the volley to squeeze it past Kira Ketelhut to make it 6-1.
  • In the 74th minute Hannah Nugent took a step up in an attempt to keep the ball in the offensive half for the Eagles and sent a ball towards the crease that bent its way over Ketelhut at the last second to make it 7-1 Bridgewater.

Match Notes
  • Daum led all players with six total shots in the win. The next closest total was three by Megan McGee for the Hornets and Crooks for BC.
  • Byle played the full 90 for BC and made three saves in the win. The Hornets split time between Ketelhut and Kilmer who totaled eight and two saves respectively
  • The Eagles out shot the Hornets 27-8 including 17-5 in shots on goal. Both teams totaled five corner kicks.
  • Bridgewater honored two graduate students, Hanna Randolph and Emily York, along with four seniors, Richardson, Crooks, Byle and Lexi Winkler before the game for their contributions to the program.
  • The 7-1 win is the largest in the series between the two institutions separated by just over an hour on I-81.
