BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- The Bridgewater College field hockey team dropped a 6-1 contest to Roanoke in ODAC action at the Jopson Athletic Complex on Wednesday night.
THE BASICS
Final Score: Roanoke 6, Bridgewater 1
Records: Bridgewater 4-6, 1-2 ODAC; Roanoke 10-3, 4-0 ODAC
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- Madison Filson got the scoring started less than five minutes into the contest as she found a lose ball in deep and found the back of the cage.
- Daphne Daymude tied the game at the 7:36 mark of the first quarter after utilizing several consecutive shots and finally beating the goalie, 1-1.
- The first quarter ended with the game deadlocked, but Saige Bullock added another score for the Maroons seven and a half minutes into the second period.Â
- The Maroons doubled their lead to two goals when Lindsey Keyes added a tally, and RC scored again just 30 seconds later as Bullock put in her second goal with an assist to Keyes.
- Roanoke scored one more in the third quarter as the team's leading scorer Grace Vernarelli put one past the BC goalie. The score held through the third quarter as Martha Hurley scored the sixth tally with six and a half minutes left in the game, which held for a 6-1 win.
MATCH STATS
- As a team, Roanoke outshot the Eagles 15-3, including 10-3 in shots on goal.Â
- The Marons recorded 11 penalty corners compared to just one from BC.Â
- Daymude was the lone goal scorer for the Eagles and led the way with two shots. Kylie Amberger got off the other shot for BC.
- Harley Hoffman played the first half and fourth quarter, making four saves. Madalyn Miller stepped in the cage for the third and allowed three goals.
