LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Bridgewater College field hockey team led No. 19 Lynchburg, 1-0, at halftime, but the Hornets came back for a 3-1 victory on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles got the first scoring chances of the game as BC earned a penalty corner and got a shot out of it that was blocked aside. The first quarter came to end without a score.
- Near the end of the first half Bridgewater opened the scoring as Bekah Mercer took a cross from Carynn Klingler and buried a shot into the back of the net to give the Eagles a huge 1-0 advantage at halftime.
- The lead held until almost 10 minutes into the third quarter when Aaryn Boatwright scored the equalizer for the Hornets, 1-1. In the waning seconds of the third period, Lynchburg scored again to take a 2-1 lead.
- Lynchburg was able to add an insurance score with six minutes left in regulation as Madison Mark scored from the middle of the arc. The Hornets held on for the 3-1 win.
MATCH STATS
- Mercer was the lone goal scorer for the Eagles and led the team with two shots on goal.
- Klingler added an assist in the loss.
- Madalyn Miller made five saves in all 60 minutes in the cage.
- As a team, Lynchburg outshot Bridgewater 25-3.
