NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - In the first fall semester action for a Bridgewater team since 2019, the BC field hockey squad fell 8-0 at 14th-ranked Christopher Newport.

Senior goalie Brooke Hamm made 12 saves, including five in the first quarter. 

The Eagles also recorded a pair of defensive saves. Claire Ashley, the team leader in that category last season, turned away a first quarter shot by Mauri Ware to keep the score 1-0 at the time. Freshman Erin Dameron also recorded a defensive save in the second half of her collegiate game.

The Captains broke the game open with four second half goals, including a pair from Abby Asuncion.

Taylor Wood had a late opportunity to get Bridgewater on the board, but put her shot just wide in the final minute of play.

Bridgewater (0-1) will have its home opener on Saturday evening against another nationally-ranked opponent, as the Eagles welcome #3 Johns Hopkins to the Jopson turf.
