SALEM, Va. - The Bridgewater College softball team ended the ODAC regular season splitting two games with Roanoke.
Game One: Bridgewater 0, Roanoke 1
Bridgewater struggled offensively in game one, recording just two hits. Roanoke capitlized on their opportunity and scored on a RBI double to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third.
The Eagles did not allow any more runs to score but the Maroons escaped with the one-run win.
Samantha Hensley and Sarah Wimer had one hit each for Bridgewater. Brantley Swift pitched a complete game, allowing eight hits.
Game Two: Bridgewater 6, Roanoke 3
The Eagles bounced back with authority in game two taking an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Hensley RBI double to left center to send Avery Pinder home.
Bridgewater kept the offense rolling in the third inning, adding three more runs. With Torie Shifflett and Wimer on base, Katrina Martin hit a RBI double to left center to send Shifflett home and advance Wimer. Wimer and Martin would score on a Kaitlyn Tirona 2 RBI single up the middle to take the 4-0 lead.
Hensley added one more in fourth to send Pinder home yet again on a RBI single to left field. Martin capped off the Eagles offensive turnaround with a homer to right field in the fifth for a 6-0 edge.
Roanoke started to mount a comeback in the bottom of seventh and scored three runs. However, the Eagles kept composure and held on for the 6-3 win.
Martin had a game high three hits followed by Hensley with two. Hensley, Martin and Shifflett all hit doubles, with Hensley, Martin and Tirona recording two RBIs each. Pinder stole two bases while Emma Killion earned the win, allowing nine hits with three strikeouts.
Bridgewater is now 11-11. The Eagles now wait to see who they will face in this weekend's first round of the ODAC tournament.
