BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team picked up two wins over ODAC foes Guilford and Randolph to move to 6-4 on the year.
Bridgewater 3, Guilford 0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-17)
The Eagles and Quakers played back-and-forth ball until Sienna Sullivan served four consecutive points to give Bridgewater an 18-11 lead, the largest of the set. Bridgewater only allowed Guilford to score two more in set and went up 1-0 on a Hope Jennings service ace.
Bridgewater continued to dominate the match and hit their best team percentage in the second set with a .333. Siena Naotala gave the Eagles the 2-0 edge on a powerful kill.
The visitors maintained pace with the Eagles in the third, tying the score at 11-11. Kills from Naotala, Jennings and Nadia Valle helped Bridgewater break away to cause a Guilford timeout at 15-11. The Eagles did not let the Quakers gain any momentum and rolled to the 25-17 set win.
Jennings shined in the match recording a game high nine kills, 11 digs, four aces and two blocks. Naotala and Ashley Casey both had five kills with Casey adding 12 digs. Grace Hayes posted 30 assists.
Bridgewater 3, Randolph 0 (25-12, 28-26, 25-13)
Bridgewater jumped out to a 21-4 advantage to start the match and did not look back, earning the first set win in an impressive fashion.
Randolph shocked the Eagles and battled back in set two to push extra points. Naotala had three clutch kills that kept the Eagles in the game, including the set winning kill to put Bridgewater up 2-0.
The third set closely resembled the first as the Eagles had identical hitting percentages in both sets of .333. Naotala and Lauren Nofsinger teamed up to end the match on a block.
Naotala posted a career high 16 kills followed by Sullivan with ten. Jennings contributed a match high 16 digs followed by Jyailah Friendly with 13. Hayes had 37 assists.
With the two wins, Bridgewater moves into sixth place in the ODAC with one match remaining against Emory & Henry at home next Wednesday. The result will determine the Eagles seeding for the upcoming ODAC tournament.
