Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College softball team moved to 8-0 on the season with two wins over ODAC foe Shenandoah Tuesday at Fulk Field.

Game One: Bridgewater 6, Shenandoah 1

After a slow start, the Eagle bats came alive in the bottom of the fifth starting with a Brooklynn Fridley single. Fridley advanced to second after an Avery Pinder sacrifice fly, and the Eagles loaded the bases after Shenandoah walked Katrina Martin and Torie Shifflett. Samantha Hensley stepped up the plate and delivered a two RBI double to center field to bring Fridley and Martin home for a 2-1 lead.

Kaitlyn Tirona hit a two RBI double to left center to make it 4-1, and Jazmyne Smith hit a sacrifice fly to left field giving Sarah Wimer the path to home.

Shifflett added another run on a RBI single to center field to take game one 6-1.

Shifflett, Hensley, Tirona, Fridley and Pinder all contributed a hit for Bridgewater. Hensley and Tirona added two RBIs. Brantley Swift pitched all seven innings allowing five hits and one run.

Game Two: Bridgewater 9, Shenandoah 2

Shenandoah scored the first run of the game in the top of the first and Hensley evened things up with a RBI double to left field to make it 1-1.

Fridley sent Morgan Landes home on a single to right field in the bottom of the second before Martin hit a sacrifice fly to bring Kathryn Thomas home for a 3-1 lead. The Hornets made it interesting in the top of the fourth when they added one run. Martin and Hensley answered again with RBI singles to give Bridgewater the 5-2 lead heading into the fifth.

A big Shifflett three RBI double to center field put the Eagles up 8-2, and Thomas put on more up on the board on the second sacrifice fly of the game to bring Wimer home for the 9-2 win.

Hensley led all batters with three hits followed by Thomas and Fridley with two. Five different Eagles recorded doubles, while Martin, Shifflett and Hensley all added multiple RBIs.

Emma Killion picked up the win after throwing six innings and allowing six hits. Keristen Kennedy pitched the final inning allowing the Hornets to gain nothing in the final frame.

Bridgewater return to action in one week when they travel to Virginia Beach to take on Virginia Wesleyan.
