Hayes Breaks 2,000 Assists in Tri-Match Sweep

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Bridgewater College volleyball junior setter Grace Hayes broke 2,000 career assists in an ODAC tri-match sweep of Guilford and Randolph.

Game One

The Basics

  • Final Score: Bridgwater 3, Guilford 0 (25-15, 25-13, 26-24)
  • Records: Bridgewater (10-9, 5-3 ODAC), Guilford (5-13,2-5 ODAC)

How It Happened 

  • Ashley Rutherford propelled the Eagles to a 4-0 lead from the service line to start set one strong. Jessica Bissmeyer would end the first frame on back-to-back serivce aces
  • Bridgewater recorded five services aces in the second set, which was ended on back-to-back Ashley Casey kills
  • Guilford held a 23-19 advantage in the third set needing just two points to push a fourth set. Timely kills from Ann-Marie Johnson, Lisa O'Grady and Lauren Nofsinger made it 24-24. A Nofsinger block and Hayes kill sealed the comeback for BC to take the 3-0 win

Match Notes

  • Bissmeyer had a match-high 10 kills and Rutherford had a match-high 13 digs
  • Johnson hit .800 with four kills on five attempts

  • Final Score: Bridgewater 3, Randolph 0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-21)
  • Records: Bridgewater (11-9, 6-3 ODAC), Randolph (7-11, 2-6 ODAC)

How It Happened

  • Bridgewater hit their best percentage of the day in set one with a .205
  • The Eagles held Randolph to just six kills in set two on 29 total attempts
  • Bridgewater completed the sweep with three identical set scores of 25-21

Match Notes

  • Hayes eclipsed the 2,000 career assists mark, recoring 34 in the match bringing her career mark to 2,011 assists
  • Casey had a match-high 12 kills followed by Bissmeyer with 10 and Johnson with seven
  • Grace Williams posted 15 digs followed by Rutherford with 11 and Hayes with 10
