Field Hockey Hosts Another Ranked Opponent

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College field hockey team faced its second straight ranked opponent, falling 4-0 to #14 CNU on Wednesday.

Senior goalie Ali Bishop made a career-high 17 saves, including six stops in the opening period.

Neither team recorded a shot or penalty corner until 8:26 of the first quarter, where the action exploded. Bishop made four saves on the ensuing corner, stopping two shots each by Sarah Mueller and Abby Asuncion.

On the next corner, Bishop stopped a redirect, but a third corner was whistled and CNU finally made the flurry count by recording the game's opening goal.

Five minutes into the second quarter, Meghan Obaugh flashed a dangerous cross across the goalmouth, but nobody could get a touch on it. Obaugh then collected the ball in the area and shot, but was blocked by a CNU defender.

Haley Runyon made a clearance off the goalline later in the second quarter, but a penalty stroke was whistled and finished up high by Bailey Miller. CNU would add a third before the break.

Miller made it 4-0 in the second half with a rocket slap shot off a corner that deflected off an Eagle defender and into the upper corner. Bishop would save seven of eight shots on target in the final 30 minutes.

Bridgewater (1-8) will conclude a six-game non-conference homestand on Saturday, with a 10 a.m. Family Weekend matchup vs. Sewanee.
