BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Eagles couldn't recover from an early disallowed goal, as Bridgewater lost 3-0 to #18 Christopher Newport on Saturday at Jopson Field.

It briefly looked like déjà vu after Tessa Tierson's first half goal defeated nationally-ranked CNU a year ago. In this game, Tierson tapped in an Emily Matisons pass from the right side just three minutes in, but the goal was waved off.

With still no official shots recorded 8:30 into the game, a dangerous cross was cleared out of the BC goalmouth by Karinne Moyer.

CNU opened the scoring midway through the first half. Abby Crys tipped a pass from Courtney Feist out of the air, just past Ali Bishop's blocker and inside the left post.

Bridgewater had a great chance early in the second half, with Courtney Cooke putting a nice spin move past her defender and flashing a pass across the goalmouth that Tierson just missed tipping in.

CNU doubled their lead with 13 minutes to go on a penalty corner, with Courtnie Greene scoring on Feist's second assist of the day.

Rachael Allshouse scored the final goal, after a defensive save by Moyer.

The game was a rematch of last year's September 17th encounter when Bridgewater upset the 14th-ranked Captains 1-0 on a Tierson goal.

2016-17 senior Marisa Sims provided the assist on that winning goal, and Bishop made 10 saves in the shutout.

At the time, it was Bridgewater's third win over a nationally-ranked team in their past 10 games. Including their 2015 NCAA tournament run, the Eagles had played eight ranked opponents over a stretch of 28 games.

Bridgewater is 1-5 and will play next at Roanoke on Tuesday. CNU improves to 5-1 on the year.
