Box Score 2 GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Bridgewater College Eagles traveled to Guilford on Saturday afternoon for their final doubleheader of the season and fell 4-2 and 15-0 (five innings) in ODAC action.
Game one: Guilford 4, Bridgewater 2
Guilford (24-16, 8-10 ODAC) broke a 2-2 tie with a two-run inning in the fifth to beat out Bridgewater (9-29, 2-16 ODAC) during the opener.
The Eagles scored the first run of the game in the top of the second. Senior Brooke Throckmorton led off with a walk, and freshman Emily Parks reached on a dropped fly by the first baseman. Freshman Mikalia Guard loaded the bases with a single through the left side, and sophomore Ryan Kirtner drew a walk to bring home Throckmorton.
However, the Quakers answered in the bottom second with a couple of RBI singles to take a 2-1 advantage.
The Eagles evened the score in the third inning. Back-to-back walks put sophomore Hannah Nyquist and senior Brianna Cox on base with only one out. On the next at bat, Throckmorton reached on a fielder's choice and Cox scored a run on a throwing error.
Both offenses stalled until the Quakers took the game-winning lead in the fifth inning. Shelby Helms hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield and Brooks Bray hit a RBI double to left center.
The Quakers then held the Eagles to only two hits to secure the win.
Game two: Guilford 15, Bridgewater 0 (five innings)
The Quakers outhit the Eagles 16-to-4 to capture the second meeting in five innings.
In the first inning, the Quakers took an early 3-0 lead on three hits and two errors.
The contest quickly got out of hand in the second as the Quakers scored six more runs on seven hits and two more errors.
The Eagles made an attempt to claw back into the game in third inning after loading the bases with two outs. Nonetheless, Cox flied out to right field to end the frame.
Guilford continued to add more runs in the bottom third with two RBI singles and a throwing error that led to a couple of runs, putting the game virtually out of reach.
Quakers' starter Courtney Lackey pitched all five innings, posting four hits, two walks and three strikeouts for the shutout.
