SALEM, Va. - Emory & Henry scored the game-winning basket with 2.5 seconds left in the contest Thursday evening as the Wasps slipped past Bridgewater College 88-87 in the quarterfinals of the ODAC women's basketball tournament.

The Eagles took the lead with 7.5 seconds left on a driving layup by Cassidy Burkholder. Emory & Henry inbounded the ball in their offensive end to Megan Jacoby and the Wasps' point guard found Chloe Harris on a backdoor cut for the go-ahead layup

Bridgewater called timeout to advance the ball to the frontcourt and got the ball into Burkholder's hands, but her running 15-footer at the buzzer was short as the Eagles' season came to end with the one-point loss.

The Wasps led by as many as nine points in the second half, but the Eagles battled back and took the lead with 4:30 left in the fourth period when Jessi Strom knocked down a 3-pointer from the left side for a 77-75 BC advantage.

After the Wasps tied the score, Burkholder scored on a driving layup, giving the Eagles a 79-77 edge with 3:56 left.

Emory & Henry scored the next two buckets, the second on a layup in traffic by Taylor Blevins, to regain the lead 81-79 with 3:05 left in the game.

Bridgewater's Jessica Lam the tied the score at 81-81 at the 2:20 mark with a 17-footer from the right wing. Jacoby then missed on a drive to the hole, but the Eagles turned the ball over on its next offensive trip as the score remained deadlocked.

The Wasps regained the upper hand when Karina Farr worked the paint for a bucket and an 83-81 E&H lead with 1:53 to go.

On BC's next possession, Burkholder drove inside but her layup rolled off the rim. Oshene Kelly pulled down the offensive board and scored on a short jumper to the score at 83-83 with 1:30 to play.

A short jumper by Blevins put the Wasps back on top, but Burkholder answered for the Eagles as her bucket tied the score at 85-85 with 40 seconds left.

The Wasps worked the ball inside to Blevins on their next possession and she was fouled on her shot attempt with 20 seconds showing on the clock. Blevins watched her first free throw rattle in and out, but she swished the second to put the Wasps up by a point, setting the stage for the dramatic finish.

The Eagles placed five players in double figures with Burkholder leading the way. The Bridgewater senior capped off her stellar career with 19 points and six rebounds despite missing much of the second half due to foul trouble.

Lam and Strom each tallied 15 points and Briana Moore added 13. Oshene Kelly posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Sydni Carey scored eight points for the Eagles and dished out a team-high five assists

Emory & Henry (19-7) was led by the 1-2 punch of Jacoby and Blevins. Jacoby led the Wasps with 21 points and Blevins scored 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Emory & Henry won the battle on the boards by a 36-31 margin and the Wasps beat the Eagles in the paint where they scored 60 of their 87 points.

Both teams shot well with the Eagles making 31-of-67 shots for 46.3 percent while the Wasps were red-hot from the floor, making 35-of-63 shots for 55.6 percent.

The Eagles had the advantage from 3-point range , making 9-of-19 shots compared to the Wasps 3-of-8 effort.

Bridgewater finished the 2015-16 season with a 14-12 overall record.
