BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's basketball team took down Hollins 57-47 on Wednesday thanks to Riley Corcoran's second career double-double. BC advances to the ODAC Semifinals to take on second-seeded Randolph-Macon on Saturday.

How It Happened

• It was a hot start after nearly anhour delay for a fire alarm going off in Nininger Hall. Bridgewater won the tip off and jumped in front early as Riley Corcoran finished at the cup for a 2-0 lead. Hollins responded with a bucket over a minute later, but Corcoran responded for BC with a score to take the lead back. The senior's bucket sparked an 11-0 Bridgewater run with contributions from Polston, Williams and Gentry with a three-pointer from the latter to make it 13-2. Hollins ended the run with a bucket with just under four minutes to go in the frame. The two sides traded scores for the rest of the frame with a pair of Hollins' free throws bringing it to an 18-8 BC lead after the opening period. 
• Aylin Humpherys drained a three-pointer for BC to start the scoring in the second stanza, but the period was dominated by defense. Hollins made a pair of free throws for the next score, but did not score its first field goal of the period until a jumper after the media timeout. The HU bucket sparked a 6-0 run for the visitors to close the gap to just six points at 23-17. Corcoran made a pair of free throws for BC , but Hollins closed in even more with a three-pointer as a three-pointer brought it to a five-point BC edge. Corcoran made a free throw in response for BC and the Eagles began to pull away to the tune of a 9-2 scoring run. Corcoran had seven of the Eagles' points in the scoring spree including two more makes at the line to make it 34-22 at the intermission.
• Garcia opened the second half with two more makes at the free throw line for BC. Hollins knocked down a jumper in response and closed back in thanks to a 7-1 scoring run that made it an eight-point Eagle lead just past the halfway mark of the third quarter. Corcoran ended BC's scoring drought with a layup on BC's next possesion and followed it up with another bucket, but Hollins made three free throws to close out the frame and make it a 41-32 Eagles' lead. 
• Hollins scored first to start the fourth quarter, but Asia Williams had BC's response with a bucket. Williams connected with Jaiden Polston on the next possession and Garcia and Corcoran made free throws to cap off a 6-0 run and make it a 47-34 BC lead with 5:46 to play. Hollins responded in short order as a 7-0 run brought HU back to within two buckets at 47-41 with 4:04 to play. BC took a timeout and regrouped in short order as a 7-1 run gave the Eagles a 54-42 lead with 1:40 to play. Hollins used some nifty ball movement to end its scoreless drought and make it a 10-point game with 91 seconds to play, but three points by the Eagles secured the win and a place in the ODAC semifinals.

Match Notes

• Corcoran's 22 point and 10 rebound double-double is just the second of her career with the first coming in her first collegiate contest. Polston added 15 points and five rebounds as the duo were the only Eagles in double figures as early foul trouble played a factor. 
• Holden led HU with 15 points, but she was the only Hollins player in double figures. 
• BC held Hollins to just 27.3% from the floor including under 20% in two quarters. BC lost the rebounding battle 41-37, but took care of the basketball and forced 21 HU turnovers in the win.
