Box Score NORFOLK, Va. – During its third conference road match in five days, the Bridgewater College volleyball team fell to Virginia Wesleyan, 3-0 (16-25, 16-25, 18-25), on Saturday afternoon in the Batten Center.
The defeat marked Bridgewater's (17-6, 6-3 ODAC) first time dropping back-to-back ODAC contests. The Eagles lost 3-0 to Randolph-Macon (9-0 ODAC) in the Crenshaw Gym last night.
Virginia Wesleyan (13-12, 4-4 ODAC) started the season 1-4 in conference play, but has won three straight ODAC matches to climb to sixth in the league rankings.
Reigning ODAC Player of the Week Tiffany Barrett paced VWC by crushing 14 kills on 29 attempts (.448) with only one error. Doneisha Hall also tallied double-digit kills, finishing 10-for-22 on four errors.
Jenna Hamra posted a match-high 19 assists through two sets of action, and Macon Frey led all players with 15 digs. Abby Mills led the Eagles in kills with nine, and Carleigh Studtmann hit .636 to rack up seven kills. Taylor McNeely chipped in 12 digs as well.
The Marlins claimed the first and second set by a score of 25-16. The Eagles started the third set with a 6-3 edge following a McNeely service ace. VWC knotted the score at 6-all, but then committed four straight errors to give BC a 10-6 lead.
Nonetheless, Virginia Wesleyan pulled away with an 11-2 run on six kills, and held on to close out the contest.
The Eagles have wrapped up their five-match road stretch and return home for a matchup against #14 Mary Washington on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. It's the Eagles first contest of the season against a nationally-ranked opponent.
